turtle soup
I have not had Mud Turtle soup(american snapping turtle)since i was a kid.Who else has had this delicacy?We used to catch em in the river.Some would actually feel under tree roots on the river bank and pull em out,usually after imbibing on some Hi-Pruf! Never liked it roasted and the meat is very rich so you did,nt want to eat too much.

I've had it once, back in the 50's, but it must not have left much of an impression because I really don't remember if it was any good. However, I will say that anyone that feels around underwater for them with their bare hands is just plain insane! 0 -

Snapping turtle has seven different kinds of meat, depending on how it's butchered. I've heard from the old timers that you don't want to eat too much as it causes gout. 0 -
We just had turtle nooodle casserole last week, we thought it was good.
Made turtle soup couple of weeks ago, used a clam chowder recipe, we all liked it.
This was from a snapper I butchered last summer and we then canned it for later use.
I will admit it was weird butchering him as it kept moving the entire time.
All in all, "Good Eats"

It has been years since I have had Turtle soup. I can just imagine trying to get my wife and son to eat it. I like it. It wasn't my favorite but if Grandma Morgan was still around to cook up a bacth. You could betcha I would be at the dinner table. I also remember that eating to much turtle would cause gout. 0
