I do agree she probably shouldn't have reproduced, though I'd have to say she isn't exactly alone in that category.
As to the rest, I have to disagree.
In my experience, there are plenty of kids with a strong work ethic, that want to be stars (or at least excel at something). Occasionally one of them even has talent, and even rarer one manages to rise to the top.
I can't speak to exactly what Spears went through as a kid, but encouraging that isn't necessarily abuse, its a question of extent. I do know Spears was a child gymnast and dancer. Why shouldn't she have been supported to chase her dreams?
Many child starts turn out well-adjusted and otherwise just fine. For example, do you think Tiger Woods was "abused" or is somehow maladjusted? I don't think so, and probably neither does he. He seems like a pretty mature adult to me.
Conversely, you certainly don't need to be a child prodigy to screw up your life, engage in bad relationships, abuse substances, or behave like a baby.
What I would say is that being young, rich and in Hollywood, where drug abuse and sexual promiscuity are commonplace, is a pretty good recipe for disaster. Some Hollywood types resist the temptations well. . .others succumb.0 -
Go, phideaux! Upholding the honor of our State! Lifelong resident of LA myself, and my wife and I recently commented there is still a lot about this State we haven't discovered yet, so we're on a mission to experience the whole thing.
Maybe they don't think much of it, and maybe it ain't much, but it's the best State we got!

Oh, yeah, about the topic. Ms. Spears is one of our more famous residents, but not necessarily our favorite resident. She's just another example of a small-town girl who gets caught up in the trappings of fame and fortune, with nothing in her experience or training on how to deal with it.
Principals, men! Foundations! Teach your children well so they can handle whatever life throws at them (or showers on them)!0 -
