Dog Surgery questions-- Vets??

For the last couple weeks since our last pheasant hunt my lab has been holding his left rear leg up.Took him to my vet last week he referred me to another.This vet said he needed a "cruciate ligament repair"(same as my vet thought) in his knee.They go in and pull the bones together fasten with line that will scar over and make a permanent repair to joint.Expects full recovery.The dog is 5 years old,and cost is about $1200.Has anyone done this to their dog? What were the results? Is the cost reasonable? Thanks.

  I'd pay for the surgery and then retire him. But that's just me.

  Yep. it works. get it done if you want to hunt him. I paid $700 a couple years ago. recovery is quicker the younger they are.
