Fraud sale last night
I listed my pristeen Winchester Model 70 on Gunbroker last week and got a winning bid of $599.00 at the auction close last night. I got an e-mail stating that the bidder's son put in the winning bid and he is under age and has no money to pay for the gun. He used his Dad's valid Gunbroker registration and password to do the deed. At this point I have lost the sale, the fees, good bidders that honestly bid on my gun behind this fraud bid, the time for the auction, the time to handle this situation and of course the tremendous disapointment. I have entered a fraud report on Gunbroker and am waiting for a response. I am sharing this experience as a caution to all sellers. One never knows who you are dealing with on the internet. My biggest disappointment is the irresponsability of this youth who's action has hurt someone. I can only hope the father sits down with this son and explains the reality of his action. Any comment? 11Echo: true, to an extent. Retracted bids by the winner are not all that uncommon. GB Holdings, INC has mechanisms in place to deal with this. Seller will get listing fees credited to his card, or annulled althgether if listing fees haven't yet been deducted from his [sellers] account.
Or perhaps winning bidders account (credit card on file) will be charged. Seller won't lose, except maybe in the usual game of playing tag through the feedback system. Joe0 -

My reserve was $599.00 on the sale. Gunbroker responded and said they will credit me back the fees. I relisted the Gun and lowered the reserve to $499.00 and put a buy it now on it for $500.00 and hope my $500.00 bidder before the fraud bid will notice and get back in the game. This is a super nice Winchester 70 in 270 Winchester caliber. Thanks for your comments. Anyone need a very nice Winchester? [:)] 0 -

I had to submit valid credit card during join-up. GB, INC. took $1 from it (my card) and transfered it to a "credit" of one dollar in my GB account. I didn't ask them to do it. I'm sure others had to do the same in order to sign up (have a valid credit card on file). If not, then why did I have to submit one? Joe

It told me at first i had to that, but i used my AOL email, and it didnt make me put a credit card on file.0 -

my guess would be Dad was drunk and bid/won the auction and when He sobered up he realized what He did and wormed his way out.
Post a D- feedback and then relist the rifle, recoup your auction fees through Gunbrokers non paying bidder overview.

Or maybe he fully intended to purchase the gun at what he thought was an excellent price, but when he excitedly shared his joy at winning this auction with his wife, she did not approve, hence the lame excuse (thinking at least that story is better than admitting that his wife made him back out of a contract)?

Yes, I have a credit card on file with GB also but I only authorized them to charge that initial $1, listing fees, and final value fees. Nothing in the agreement allows for any other charges.
