We called them tennis ball cannons.

I made plenty of them. I have thought about makeing one for the kids to play with under my supervission.

Wait till they finish building the Spaceport in Sierra County, some of the tech geeks at NMSU are planning on building a sounding rocket that goes over 750mph straight up! Any bets on where it'll touch down?

We used to have tennis ball wars in the dorms when I was in college.
In those days, tennis balls came in steel cans so we used it for the lancher.
