another dryer vent question
This is taking allen's question one step further. I have a dryer that is right by a wall which I could drill through and mount a cap BUT its right by my A/C unit outside I don't want the lint getting in my A/C is there a cap that will catch the lint? Or do I just keep cleaning my A/C when it gets caked with lint?

I would consider routing the vent elsewhere. I don't know what is going through the minds of some builders. My dryer was vented into the garage, so the garage caught all the lint and stayed damp when the dryer was running. I blocked the hole and made a new one venting the dryer out the front of the house. Now I have to sweep off the front porch once a month or so, but the garage stays dry and cleaner. 0 -
When I bought my home, the dryer vented right into the crawlspace underneath. So it looks like something out of Indiana Jones under there!

i would not put it within a few feet of the ac unit, not only lint build up but more important is the heat, again pvc could be used to run it a min of 3 feet away from the ac 0 -
Yes,..........run it away from the AC unit.
You don't know how many service calls I have been on that were because of this very thing.
Go underground if you don't want a run of ugly pipe on the side of your house, but like 1911 said, PVC will reduce the "static" pressure drop, and you can go further than other options.
Last choice would be to vent straight through the wall, and make yourself a "bag" out of window type screen.
You will need to clean it out frequently though.0 -
Simple fix. Either purchase some wire mesh or a wire mesh sink strainer (strainer available at Wally World). Fit the wire mesh or strainer just inside the vent duct. Catches any lent that gets by the dryer vent filter. Just remember to clean the captured lent from the mesh every so often.
Installed one in our dryer vent duct a couple of years ago----works like a charm.0
