That BlueTooth Thingy - Rant
You know.those people that walk around the mall or super market with their BlueTooth interface gadget stuck in their ear like a giant hearing aid. And they're not talking. I guess they just might receive a call that needs to be urgently answered and conversation commenced without the delay that would result from just using and answering their cell phone. I think they look so friggin hilarious. And they act as if they're in their right mind.

Marner, Im with you i dont understand that damn thing, i have had this happen more than once, You start talking to some one, and they seem like theyre talking to you, then they turn their head and you see that stupid thing, and realize they didnt even acknowledge you. Hate that. 0 -

I think the modern trend in communication can be directly liked to the volatility of our society and the world economy. It has made it much easier for people to make impulse reactions to world events. If something happens the news travels around the world in hours instead of days or weeks. Situations in the past that would have burned themselves out before being widely known, causing little impact, now cause knee jerk reactions before the full details of an occurance are fully know. People jump on or off the bandwagon so fast it causes a chain reaction, usually bad. 0 -

First off, 95% of people that have cells don't need them, it's just a status thing. The man really in control of things will not be a slave to a telephone. He lets others sweat the minor emergencies of life while he enjoys peace and quiet.

I get a kick out of seeing two teenagers in a car, both of them on cell phones, the driver and the passenger, and I gotta wonder if they are talking to each other! Cell phones are for people who need constant stimulation and can not bear to be alone with their own thoughts....because 9 times out of ten, they have no coherent thoughts! 0 -

I have a blue parrot head set for cell phone ...not one of them stupid ear clip things.. but i only use it in tractors and combines.....i can hear it ring that way when other wise my cell phone would be sitting where i would not hear it ring over loud machinery......I conduct a lot of business over my cell phone. 0 -

it's a fashion statement in the hood, they must wear them 24/7, i bet some don'y have service,because i've seen brothers driving around in 99 degree weather with the windows up, and no airconditioning so they look good
i use one in my car, i get embarrassed if i forget and leave it on

The real issue here is that some people with cell (or blue tooths, or whatever) consider the phone call to be more important than the face-to-face conversation they are having with someone at that time. This is incredibly rude, and threatens the underpinnings of civilized behavior.
Besides, I think most of them are trekkies. It's a trekkie thing.0 -
I have walked out of stores because the 'sales person' felt it was more important to answer their cell phone than to wait on a customer, me!
On the other hand, I've seen people interrupt their business as a customer having to answer their cell phone.

I agree with most of the statements, up to a point. In my personal case, I use one because I am VERY hard of hearing, and even with two hearing aids I have trouble hearing my cell phone ring. AND, since I am an OLD fart, I want my kids to be able to reach me, so I use the bluetooth device to enable me to hear the phone and the conversation better. Also, in Texas, it is now illegal to talk on a phone while driving without a hands free device. Of course, they are not enforcing it very agressively, yet. Some do it for status, I do it out of necessity. 0 -

As far as being rude with a cell phone I always try to make sure you will not have to listen to whatever I am talking about.
When I go into a store I make sure that when I get up front to pay I am not on the phone so as not to be rude to the person ringing me out I would not like it and I won't do it to them

I use one too, but for business calls (I'm a business owner, big deal) and need it to be hands free while driving and still hear the call. I agree with most of the threads here that deal with those just wanting to be cool or appear cooler than YOU....... just to have one in sight and be seen. Very annoying to be attending to my basic needs at a urinal and some guy walk up quietly and all of a sudden start raving about something that makes me do some quick assessment before I drop him like a bad habit.
Like too many "tools" in life, they become status symbols to some but the joke is really on them because as has already been pointed out, you can live in a box under the bridge and still have a cell phone and a bluetooth...... see earlier picture.......
I also like hearing some states are starting to deal with the nuisance that cell phones are becoming more and more everyday and passing laws to prevent their unsafe use. Notice I said UNSAFE use. I use mine while driving too but that's when I use my bluetooth and I can focus on my driving and speed. I only take calls while driving, if I Need to initiate one, I do it stopped.
To me the obvious nerd with the cell phone/bluetooth is like the dude with the really ugly combover, he's the only one who doesn't know somethings wrong.0 -
Got one, never used it,just came with the phone. Jerks with cell phones ducked taped to their heads in the mall kill me.I have a real problem with these butt heads,Walking around talking louder than needed, drawing everybodys attention to the fact that they have zero class.
My phone is a direct line to my wife, son, daughter and grand kids.The phone is always on vibrate and in a pocket that cant be seen or heard.0 -

I've got one. I use it, but I don't need it on my ear all the time.
I will, however, tell you that it is far better to have it than to hold the cellphone against my face. And, I'm happy to share "why" with you.
I travel for work. A lot. When I've got both hands full with luggage and I'm trying to coordinate being picked up at the airport, it is a lot easier for me to not hold a phone against my face than it is to stop, drop a piece of luggage, and carry on the conversation. Meanwhile, I try to keep my cellphone conversations short.
When I'm in the car, I would rather not hold the phone to my ear while driving. Again, I try to keep the conversation short. I don't droll on and on. Give me what you need to tell me and we can discuss in detail at a more convenient time.
My phone is a Blackberry. It holds my calendar amongst other things. If I have to hold my phone up to my ear, and I'm trying to set an appointment, it is cumbersome take the phone away from my ear, go to the calendar, look at the date, and render an answer, only to find out that there's a conflict and I have to go through the whole thing again. With the Spock Ear, I can cycle through everything and continue to carry on the conversation. And, when I need to send a client an email, I can do that while I'm on the phone and we can continue to discuss it if necessary.
FWIW, when I'm not driving, I keep the Spock Ear in my pocket. If the phone rings, instead of picking it up out of the holster and holding it to my ear, I simply pick up the Spock Ear and put it on. It takes about the same amount of time to pick up the phone.
For me, it isn't a fashion thing. It is a convenience thing. And, just because YOU don't think it is important doesn't make it so.0 -
Ok...enough from the wanna be dufusses.
I use a blue tooth for a couple of reasons. First; I have a bad neck; holding the phone, cell or otherwise, up to my ear causes pain and numbness in my neck and arms. I use a headset on the house phone too. The second reason is that I am a road warrior, driving over 60,000 miles a year. I can concentrate on driving keeping both hands on the wheel and still carry on a conversation. I got so used to a blue tooth that I can't (won't) drive and talk on a hand held phone, the hand held is distracting, not the blue tooth.0
