The Actor that portrayed the Red Ryder lives in New Mexico and often shows up at gun shows in costume and persona. He too seems to see it as a life long responsibility and duty. Sadly anyone who actually remembers Red Ryder is far too old to be interested in an autograph. Nice guy too, rancher here.

That was a funny story.
I was at a gun auction 2 days ago. In the auction was a Colt SAA nickel plated with "Clayton Moore" engraved down the backstrap.
It had letters and paperwork to go with it.0 -
We used to have a couple of Our Gang child actors that had a booth down at the old Colby's Swap meet (a San Diego flea market) who used to sell their autographed photos - and other old movie related ephemera. There were three, as I recall - one was Tommy Bond ('Butch') and the other was Mary Ann Jackson ('Mary Ann') and I forget the other one. Their booth was a great place to hang out and listen to their recollections of Hollywood in the 30's and 40's.
They're all gone now. Tommy always said he was going to write a book - wish he had. His stories went on for hour(s) - certainly could stick somebody to a spot and make it hard to leave.

... if anyone is interested in Randolph Scott's nickel plated, .45 LC Colt SAA (with all papers, including the original receipt from Colt) long time personal .45 - used in most, if not in all, of his movies. It's owned by a close friend of mine - for only $35K!

Zipper, it has occured to me that such guns as that one may in fact decline in value over time, as fewer and fewer folks have the privilege of seeing those movies and remembering those actors. I will always think of Ride the High Countryas one of the greatest western classics. It would be an honor to own such a gun. But maybe not $35K worth. 0 -
Some years ago I got an autographed picture of John Hart, who played the Lone Ranger for one season when Clayton Moore was in a contract dispute. He was a really nice guy who had other roles too, but Moore was the real Lone Ranger to me. In later years I remember that the owners of the Lone Ranger series stopped him from appearing in the full costume, namely the mask. He wore large sunglasses after that. But it didn't matter, he was always THE Lone Ranger. 0 -

That small bit of insight was brought home to me, anyway, about twenty years ago when I decided that I could not go on living, without owning a Model 'T' Ford.
I was at an antique car auction and I was struck at the price differential between the oldest and the newest cars offered - I think the 'newest' were muscle cars from the 70's. Al were restored - and a '65 GTO eventually got my full attention.
I was talking to the auctioneer during one of his coffee breaks and asked him why the older classics (generally) were such great bargains?
His reply was that it was obvious ... everyone who knew/loved those old classics were dead or (the survivors) had gotten beyond the 'love' of maintaining them. He further assured me to live a few more decades and I'd be able to pick up some of those mid-fifties beauties (cars) for a tune!
I wish guns were the same across the board, though. When I was 16, you could buy Lugers for $50 all day long - and twice on Sundays (at the swapmeet)!

The only two western actors that I would like to own one of their personal Colt Single Actions are John Wayne and Randolph Scott. However, for what one of them would cost I can own a bunch of better and older ones! Still, it would be nice! 0 -

LOL ... I went to high school with Treasure Lee S. - we called her 'Treasure Chest,' or TC, for short - and such a bountiful and richly endowed treasure trove it (they) was (were)!
... I guess that made up for anything!
