Voting
In my family, voting has always been a big deal. My father, with us kids, and now I and my sister, with our kids, take them into register on their 18th birthday. Today, someone came into the wife's shop and saw her 'I Voted" sticker. "Oh yea" he said "today we're supposed to vote. I forgot, what difference does it make anyway." She told him "Why don't you go home and watch the first 10 minutes of 'Saving Private Ryan' or the last 10 minutes of 'The Patriot'. That's why we vote." I'm proud of her, couldn't have said it better.

When I go to the polls here in Texas, I have to show my voter registration card and sign a bound book on a numbered line. Then, I can choose from a stack of paper ballots, or I can use an electronic machine. The paper ballots are also numbered, but the numbers do not correspond with the numbered lines in the book.
When I lived in Arkansas, and went to the polls, I had to show my voter registration card, and sign a bound book on a numbered line. Then, I was handed ONE paper ballot that was numbered the same as the line in the book I just signed. Anyone could find out how anyone else voted. I didn't care who knew how I voted, but I did think it was a strange way to conduct a "secret" ballot election.0 -
I voted today for my first time.We had lost our voting papers so went to the court house,to get some more,we filled them in and handed them in,would you believe we were not asked for any ID at all.I could have been any one and as I have a none American accent I was very surprised. 0 -

This could get funny.
It reminds me of the Englishman, looking down on his nose at the Cockney, says, "My dear fellow...Don't you know the Queen's English?"
The Cockney replies...
"That's wot oi 'ear, Guv.."0 -
I was just poking fun at you, Glyn. You probably speak English better than I do. It's a good thing to be proud of something that most other Americans take for granted. 0 -
Jesus.
I'm hallucinating.
Belay my last.
Good on ya, glyn.
Carry on, y'all, and just ignore me.
I'm sure I"ll go away soon....0
