I already have one of those, and love it(for plinking). my reason for asking is because ammo prices around here make it cheaper to shoot good .22-250 and .243 than good .223rem 0 -

Depends on the wind.
I've used both on prairie dogs. I like the idea of using the heavier bullets available for loading 243 when the wind kicks up some.
If you don't hand-load, go with 22-250. It's a dedicated varmint cartridge and factory loaded as such.
They're both inherently accurate. I wish I hadn't sold my 243.

If you are really serious, a .220 Swift. I have nothing against the .243 or .22-250, just like something a little out of the ordinary. Last summer I loaded my Swift up with some 35gr V-max's for ground squirrels. Never got a chance to chronograph the loads, but good Lord, talk about red mist, and the bullets never came apart mid-flight. Just guessing, they had to be doing 4200+.
You'd be more than happy with either one though. The 55gr BT's in a .243 sure do make a rockchuck go POP!!0 -

What's your idea of long range? If you were just going to kill them 22-250. If you want to circumcise them then 22BR (22-250 velocities with less powder and better accuracy) If you really want long range 6mmbr. 0 -

Both are excellent! As far as factory ammo and varmints, I would go with the 22-250. I always get more joy out of hittin' 'em with a larger pill[}:)]. .308Win. is still my fav, pushin' a 175 gr pill[;)] Not the good red mist velocity, but yet chunks scatterin for yards[:p] I am getting ready to start loading a 36gr pill for my 22-250 and 222Rem, oh let the red mist commence[}:)] 0 -

Unless you leave out the fact that the .243 with the 55gr v-max generates less ft-lbs and a lower TKO than the .220 with a 55gr v-max. You get into heavier bullets weights, then yes, even I'll admit, the .243 beats it hands down.0 -

Well, heck, then. I may have to do that. I read about them in my local gunshop (just a few doors down from my office) and ordered them from my gun guy on the spot. He said they were on back order. So I'll check next payday and if they're still on back order, I'll try Midway. Meantime, if you get a chance to try them out, post the results. The mag I read about them in had a pet load for 22-250. I think it was "Rifleman" (not "American Rifleman") magazine. What caught my eye was the test gun: Savage 112. Same bbl twist and everything as mine.0
