Not a RANT, Just a Fact
Funny how my original pawnshop post was zapped by a mod. It was completely within the guidelines as posted. Rather than have to agree with me, which some are loath to do, it was just made to go away. I think I will take Dave's advice he wrote in another thread. Complain to higher ups.[8D]

I never even saw the thread but I can tell you that most of the time it isn't the topic that is cause for poofing, it's the comments posted during the course of the replies. The member who started the thread may come back and find the thread gone and not know why. It's usually because two or more members began raking each other over the coals and it wasn't anything the original poster said or did.
It happens to me all the time. I started 6 threads last weekend and 5 were deleted by other mods when name-calling ensued. I never saw the ugly replies, all I know is I came back and the threads were disappearing.
Some people say just delete the problem posts and leave the rest of the thread up. But generally what happens is the problem people just come back to that thread and continue the inappropriate posting. Most of the time the only way to make it stop is to dump the whole thread. This is unfair to the member who started the topic and to all who were participating in a civil fashion but what can we do?
My advice is to do what I do when this happens.
Forget about it.
Complaining won't bring the threads back or prevent the same thing from happening again. Just shrug and move on.0 -

How about deleting the offending posts, and "locking" the thread?

Because if I dare lock a thread ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!
This absolutely INFURIATES a number of people who unload on me mercilessly. I get called all sorts of names and accused of all sorts of things and I get emails DEMANDING that poofing the whole thread is better than locking it.
I don't know why but that's what happens. So I avoid locking threads to spare myself the Doo-Doo Deluge.0 -
