    and the scientists always seem to say they have to do these things because it is for the "good of mankind"...i tell you, one day god is going to look on the earth and say "to hell with the lot of them...bang!!"...and it will seve us right!

    Given the supposed omnipotence of the xtian god (which I am assuming is the one being referred to in the initial post) I would think it must all be part of the mysterious plan. Our lifespans are going to increase and now we will be making the selections on an even grander scale. I imagine that even within some of our lifetimes we will not even recognize the "human" animals that we will create. So I guess god is even less relevant than ever. Good riddance.

    I agree with Dan. No matter how many things man thinks he's good at and improves upon, God will eventually get fed up. It's happened before with the flood. Creation of life belongs to one entity alone. The day we get into messing with that, I would say we are not long off to judgement day.

    Are you serious? If somebody can come up with a cure for juvenile diabetes and all the other horrors some are born with, I'm 100% for it. My mother suffered horribly from lupus, and eventually died from complications of it. If the scientists can come up with a way to avoid that, I'm all for it.

    And BTW, all you people who are going on about how this is against God's way and all that--you didn't get childhood vaccinations, right? And you never take antibiotics, right? And you'd never use gene therapy if it might cure your Alzheimers or Parkinsons, right? And you'll never get an organ transplant, right? Because if you have or if you will, well, hypocrite is such an ugly word, isn't it?

    I would have to say yes, I have had numerouse immunizations in my life. I've taken more antibiotics than I care to count. I take tylenol for headaches, and beleive that nobody should suffer needlessly from an illness. However I would draw the line at benefits at the expense of life. Who would control said "parts"? How long would they let a fetus develop until it was destroyed for said benefits? Who would control such a thing? Life is life. All just as precious as any family or friend we have with an ugly ailment that could be prolonged by the death of other life. I have no animosity towards anybody who has a different view at all. My father died a miserable death after his 4th heart attack. He could have used a transplant the last 2 years of his life just for the benefit of being able to walk to the toilet without having chest pain or shortness of breath. But I and he would never have wanted a heart that was made at the expense of viable life. Yes, he would have taken an organ doner's heart given the opportunity if someone had already died. But that didn't occur. It suck's, but thats the way it is. Life is precious, all life. And that is just my thoughts.

    Man has been creating and manipulating life for thousands of years. Hamburger anyone? Your god dropped the ball.

    The flood I was refering to was when God destroyed the earth through the 40 days and night of rain save Noah and his family. That is of course Bible, and I know you have to believe in it for it to matter. So the topic of course will be responded too with views of either believing or non believing respondants. obviously those responding will post their views. I'm just giving mine and absolutely won't try to convince otherwise. The topic is like abortion. You're either are for it, or absolutely against it. Only God knows the answers to so many questions such as why he would allow disease, horrific catastrophies and so forth to occur. If you believe, you are bound to share those thoughts pertaining to faith. I would not think ill of you if your views are totaly against mine. I don't judge. In the end, one is right, one is off the mark and only a judgement day or lack there of after we leave this Earth will give us the answer.

    In times past, doctors injected children with things they made from microorganisms. Lots of people were against that too, however small pox was eradicated from the face of the earth............

    Another aspect is the fact that research being done is for treatments, not cures. Vaccinations and cures equals bankruptcy for the pharmaceutical companies. Treatment equals return on investment.

    Huh? If a disease can't be cured but could be treated, wouldn't it be good to have the treatment available? And if vaccinations equal bankruptancy for the pharmaceutical companies, how come we aren't surrounded by a bunch of people sick with polio and smallpox? Is is possible that these agents of Satan, heartless monsters emplolyed by the pharmaceutical companies are actually trying to erradicate disease and suffering and make our lives better? No, surely that couldn't be the answer.

    I'm not old enough to remember exactly when these two vaccines became available. 1962 was it? Why no progress with coming up with new vaccines in the last 46 years? Would you spend millions of dollars in order to put yourself out of business? What about obligations to share holders? Pharmaceutical companies aren't working themselves out of business either. Yes Some treatment is better than no treatment. I hope that was a rhetorical question.

    ... interesting ... and may I add an interesting observation.

    I've noticed every time someone here comes up with symptoms of something that sounds serious many (if not all) of the same members here, who are often concerned with man's 'meddling with God's Plan' strenuously suggest that the person in question get to a doctor - fast!

    ... I'm still waiting for someone to suggest they get to church/their minister quickly - and forget the medical foolishness!

    This flood has been proven to never have happened. Why do people take the bible so literal and believe the fairy tales it contains. The bible contains some good points for living ones life as dictated by mortal men of their time. The bible has been changed many times over to meet the agenda of those writing it. Just this fact alone does not lend credence to its validity.
