Dobermans

What are your opinions on the doberman as a house dog. I travel a lot and I would like to get my fiancee a companion as well as a protector. I have a newborn baby in the house and a 3 year old little girl, how well do these dogs interact with kids? I mentioned a pitbull to her and she is dead set against it, yeah i know she needs slapped [:o)] dogs will be as good as they are raised! But I have had three pits in my life and loved them all they are great dogs and I would just like change..

so what do you think of a doberman in a family setting? Would one dog be lonely even with the kids and her? Should I get two? do any of you know where I can get some good pups?

    We had a male Doberman when I was a kid-what a great dog he was. He was protective of us kids but not aggressive. I have a Boxer today and she has also been a wonderful dog. Out of these two breeds I just don't see most Boxers being protection dogs unless they are trained well for that as most of them are more inclined to lick someone than to be an attack dog. They are also a bit on the small side for that-with a few exceptions here and there of course-I have customer who fed his male Boxer beer of all things! That dog is about 80lbs and can still leap over a 6ft fence!
