Fleabay seller is cracked.

I was going to bid on some stuff on ebay, and the seller was in my town. I emailed them and asked if I could save the shipping cost by picking it up local.

They answered back that they would not sell the item outside of ebay, so the answer was no.

I emailed them back and explained that I wanted to bid on the item, but rather than pay $20 additional shipping, I wanted to pick it up from them and not pay shipping because I lived in the same town. Even gave them my phone number it they wanted to call and talk about it.

Got a reply this morning saying, if you win the action, you can pick it up here at the house, but you still have to pay the $20 shipping per ebay rules.

Think I'll just forget it. If they are that dumb, I don't want to buy anything from them.

    It's up to the seller whether or not he wants you to know his home address but there's no such "eBay rule". He's just trying to increase his profit by getting shipping charges since eBay doesn't charge any fee on those. He's not dumb - he's just greedy.

    I bought an item on ebay a few weeks ago from someone in my same town,and i asked if i could just pick it up and the answer was sure no problem. I won the bid and the guy called me and gave me directions to his house .Very friendly seller

    I agree that guy is an idiot.

    Also I thought that Ebay "rules" were you could not charge more than actual shipping costs. So if he allowed you to pick it up, there would be no shipping costs.

    But I would probably not give anyone my address though if I were a seller on ebay. I would mail it.

    Many, if not most, of the sellers on eBay have very little retail experience. Most have very little deductive reasoning.[:(]

    I had a guy in the next county refuse to let me pick up a purchase. His postage cost was $7 less than what he charged me for shipping.....

    Many sellers cite a charge for "shipping and handling", as do many other retail businesses.

    The "handling" piece should be contained in business operating costs; its just a way to make more on the sale, or sell at a lower price without reducing profit.

    I used to sell for the nation's #1 ephemera picker - and many, many times would meet a local for coffee and the exchange. That guy's a loser.
