Dangit! It's Cold!!!
No gas this morning. Furnace was manfully trying, but blowing cold air. Checked other appliances and found no gas present. Called Atmos and found there is an "outage" in our area, and should be fixed in the next two hours. Trouble is, the outage apparently began late last night, and the house was already pretty cold when we got up.

Isn't it interesting that the gas company can find your phone number in a heartbeat if you were late on a payment, but it is impossible for them to call and say there will not be any gas in the pipes for 24 hours.

I moved to east Texas to escape the "cold" and it's cold here this morning too, low of 19 and it's midday now and only up to 33. This ain't Minnesota, ain't spose to be this cold here..... 0 -
We don't use the fireplace, since it is an old-fashioned fireplace made mainly for looks. It does not produce a lot of heat. But, I hauled in some wood and started a fire. It made the living room and kitchen livable. Good thing, too, since we didn't get gas back on until 4:08 PM.
Poor Dawnie had to wait nearly all day to take a hot shower.0 -

In Houston twenty-six years ago this winter, the temp got down in the low teens for a couple of days. We were without gas during that spell and the gas company "explained" that "condensation had frozen in their lines and rendered their valves inoperable." Yep, we shivered for a couple of nights before some genius figured out they could thaw those valves and restore service to the entire community...about the time the weather changed and it warmed up to the balmy 70's again. At least the gas company sent around crews to relight everyone's pilot lights in furnaces, stoves, etc. BBBBRRRRRRRRR! 0 -
