Choosing a new rifle....Update w/ pic

I'll spare the details all the details, but I'm looking for a good general purpose scoped rifle.

My original choice was a Savage 11f 308. Gunbroker has one listed for $437. My local gun store has one for $450. I was going to order it tomarrow.

Had to go to Wal-Mart today to pick up some stuff for Brandy. As usual I found myself in Sporting Goods. They had a Savage Model 110 30-06 for $364 w/ scope.

Which should I buy???? What's the difference between the two? (other than caliber)

    The Savage 110 hunting rifle is not very pretty by most folks' standards. The blonky barrel locknut looks kind of crude; their wood stocks are plain, made from birch or similar wood rather than walnut; and exterior metal surfaces usually aren't highly polished. But man, do they ever shoot! They are tough, well-designed, and accurate right out of the box. They are built to perform in the field rather than to decorate your gun cabinet.



    Savage 11F - Accurate gun - the Accutrigger is the fair factory rifle trigger. The rifle is a reasonable light weight and has decent composite stock. Rear sight is a chinchy plastic arrangement, but it works. The light weight results in a hefty kick, but what the heck - I bought it for the weight and accuracy.

    The Wally world rifle has a black synthetic stock. I like the look of wood, but I feel so bad when I ding 'em up. BTW, it also has the accu-trigger

    I guess my question is: Is the difference in the 110 and the 11f worth a hundred bucks?

    make sure the one at walmart has accutrigger other wise you are buying the same one, just different caliber like you said.

    Anytime I see a Savage that is $100 less than it should be it screams to me "no accutrigger", yes the accutrigger is worth $100, IMHO it is the best factory tigger on the market today.

    Out the door cost was $380

    The bipod and sling were just laying in my closet, I thought they added to the overall package[:)]

    Does it if the acu-trigger? I just go a NIB savage model 10 .308 wood monte carlo stock for $425. It came with a simmons 3-9x40mm scope that I'm replacing with a SWFA super sniper, and I'll put the simmons on my .22lr squirrel rifle.

    Yes. It has the Accu-trigger

    You do know that wallyworld HAS a catalog of guns you can order from right? Jus ask the person at the sporting good counter.

    I have preferred the wood stocks on my savage rifles rather then the plastic stock with anything of higher caliber. For some reason it seems that plastic stocks don't fit as well as the wood stocks allowing for movement when fired. My 7mm kicked like a mule with a plastic stock but was reasonable with a wood stock and it wasn't a weight issue.

    But as far as cosmetically the 110's will not look as nice as a model 10 or 12 but will shoot just the same, and thats lights out for a $364 rifle.

    I really like savages firearms and like how they shoot.

    Rack Ops , don't want to hi-jack your thread , but , after you finished with all the paper work did the nice man behind the counter carry your rifle and escort you to the door , telling you to never bring it back ? I bought ONE gun from Wally World , and thats what they did to me [B)] Made me feel like I was a bad person for buying it .
    I do still buy up their ammo though [:)]

    Nope...Management carried the rifle and escorted me to the door [8D]
