Gonna loose our deer( they are gone)

I little over a year ago we moved to a nice house that butts up to a golf course. Our back yard has a swamp and woody area that is a nice buffer between us and the golfers.Needless to say it is the perfect location for deer and other wildlife as you can`t hunt them here. I`ve hunted deer since I was a kid ,but I really enjoy watching them in the back yard too.

On Tuesday sharpshooters useing rifles are going to start thinning the herd. Were going to miss our back yard buddies. Jane Doe,Mommy Deerest and the twins along with Uncle Buck. I still like hunting them,but these are my neighbors and I`d rather have a backyard full of deer than people.
Tuesday
At 5:20 we had a young doe fawn in the yard.Don`t know where her bro was tonight,but when she left the yard the shooting started. We usually have between 6 and 12 in the yard.There have been at least that many shots out back. They are targeting does,but since most bucks have lost their antlers we`ll see if old Uncle Buck or any of the button bucks ever show up. Rant over!

    Thats a damn shame, why don't they just up the limits, for the hunters, for a few years?

    is this in an area where there no hunting/firearms discharge allowed by civilians? They had a program like that in Rochester NY, where they baited and shot several deer, and were going to use the meat which was professionally butchered to feed inmates...an inmate found one hair, and it was all over.

    This is in a no hunting area where no one is allowed to even shoot a firearm. They are going to give the meat to the needy which is good. I think my wife and I are among the few who like to watch the deer as most folks don`t like them because they eat their flowers and shrubs. The dog idea is a good one,but they intend to hunt them until they have killed 80 between the golf course and the park which is a few miles away. They intend to target does,but this time of year the bucks have lost their antlers.

    I wonder what you have to do to get one of those sharpshooter jobs though, it would be sweet to get paid to hunt.........

    I would not be happy if I were in your position. I would like it to have some "pet" deer for neighbors, they are beautiful to watch.
    But the best practical way to control overpopulation is to shoot some of them.

    It didn`t bother me too much when I thought it was only going to be in the park.I know they have to be thinned out, but not my back yard friends. I`ve learned alot about deer from the comfort of my couch. Just watching them interact with each other and with us has given us countless hours of enjoyment.

    As long as they don't kill them all, the rest of the deer will be much better off.
    This is not my opinion but a fact of deer management programs nationwide, and the very reason that hunting is a valuable magagement tool. This also ensures that an entire herd has less of a chance of being wiped out by say, Bovine TB or some other disease. Yes, it will be sad to lose some friends but you can make new ones.

    I hate that for you, I know a small town nearby that has a very high deer population. They allow boy hunting inside Town Limits from Jan 1, until Mar 31. It seems to be working well of course this will only be the 3rd yr.

    Let's just hope those "sharp shooters" are professional about their business. That's all we need is a bunch of non hunters to witness a massacre in their own back yard.

    Know how you feel Live in the country and hunting is allowed in this area. Had a nice little Buck that was visiting me have not seen him since hunting season.

    But Momma and her twins are still around. They actually give me dirty looks if I go outside and they are around. They get the run of the place during the week so on weekends I catch them laying around taking it easy.

    I have done this for the local G&FC every few years.
    I have the night vision and suppressed firearms that they can't afford.
    There is no way I can wipe out a herd! That is why it repeats so often.

    When you say "back yard" is this property that you own or just property adjacent to yours. If you own it then post it then sharpshooters will have no more right to be on or shoot on it than anyone else. Then you ca have your own private reserve.

    A park system near us uses sharpshooters to thin the herds of deer, every year you get a bunch of protesters crying save the deer. They never hurt anybody, we are so cruel to kill the defenseless animals. The meat goes to the food kitchens though.

    At least they will be kill humanily, We are going to have HUGE winter kill numbers here.

    I'd rather them be taken by snipers than starve to death.

    The property is adjacent to ours. If it were mine they wouldn`t be allowed to set foot on it.

    I think they are prepared for protesters.They started shooting them in the park a few miles away last night.No count is available yet,but they will continue until 80 are taken.

    We usually have pretty mild winters here in southern Michigan so starvation isn`t a big concern, but they do start to look pretty rough by winters end.

    No offense but ya better get used to it. They do this every couple years. Its MDNR's way of control. Just like the doe slaughters of recent years. It's sad, but just won't go away.[:(]

    deer are pretty much a taller rodent, thinning them out only helps short term. You really have to knock them back to get them down. In the spring the number will be back up were it once was depending on density.

    I bet some of your pals will show back up in a few days. I doubt they got all 12 of your deer.
    It is just a prescription for tragedy when you try to make a pet of a wild thing.
    When I lived in the woods in Washington state I was offered a little bear cub for a pet. Somebody had shot the mother and they knew I liked animals and lived way out in the woods.
    I could see the tragedy coming, I would raise the bear, it would grow up and get shot by a hunter, then I would want to kill the hunter. I turned down the deal.

    I would imagine the sharpsooters have some very narrow parameters for when they can and cannot shoot making them carefully pick their shooting lanes. The deer will learn where these areas are and start to avoid them.
