Considering NRA Life Membership ...
Are you one?
Is it worth it?
I've been a yearly member for 15 or so years ... I got a "Special Offer" of a Fighting Eagle jacket and a life membership for $500 ... that works out to 14 years at the current yearly rate and I'll only be 64 when I "break even".
The NRA is the insurance carrier at our range so we are required to be members, we have NRA shoots and assistance with a couple Junior Shooting programs I know of as well as concealed carry classes, so the NRA is active in our area, but they don't go around waving flags saying "here we are".
Is it worth it?

Of course there will be men in black trench coats along in a few minutes to tell you it is an ignorant idea and you are only helping to destroy the 2nd amendment.0 -

I am a Life Member. I did it right after Slick Willie got re-elected.
I no longer send them any money, ever, for anything.0 -
If your range requires you to be a member and you want to stay at that range, I say do it.
That being said, I'd never join the NRA unless I had such a reason.
When I downloaded the membership application for the Kentucky State Rifle and Pistol Association, it had a column labled "NRA membership #"
I called their HQ and informed them that if being an NRA member was required to join, I wouldn't be joining.

I've been a NRAlife member since 1979 and during those 30 or so years I have, thanks to the NRA, gathered a closet filled with hats, a drawer filled with belt buckels, pins and tokens and my mail box has collected perhaps 1 ton of junk mail, which often includes their monthly magazine The American Rifleman. During those same 30 years I've been an NRA member I have seen my right to keep and bear arms start to slip and then nearly disappear here in California and all during this time the NRA just kept asking me for more and more money in order to "protect my gun rights". It is not worth it, you only fund the slow destruction of the RTKBA by joining.
I wouldn't do it again.
They sellout the RTKBA.
Join a "no-compromise" organization such as the JPFO or GOA.0 -
Until there is something better, go for it.
Besides, the rag isn't that bad. I usually do 35 minutes / 400 calories on the
elliptical trainer per magazine. So right there, it is worth it. [said the wife].0 -
Don't get me wrong, I do not regret joining the NRA nor am I planning to resign. As far as firearms safety is concerned the NRA is IMHO the only national organization which even offers a viable firearms safety program: Eddie Eagle. Both of my girls loved Eddie, who is never actually seen to touch a firearm. The NRA gave me as much safety information as I wanted, including VHS tapes, simply for the asking. Eddie Eagle is a great NRA program. NRA's support of gun rights is another issue entirely [V]. 0 -

Sounds to me like it would make more sense just to convert the NRA's support of gun rights into something that many here would like better. Then we would have a huge, powerful and effective pro-gun rights organization working for us.
That would seem to be far better than to be left with the smoldering shell of what would be left of the NRA if, as many here wish for, the NRA was destroyed. Only a smoldering shell left while we pro-gun people feverishly attempt to rebuild another organization.0 -

FWIW, I think congress needs to be gutted re-built also, The upper manegment has long lost sight of what they should be doing......

Our range has all the NRA programs but do not require a member to be a member of the NRA In Fact our club dropped the NRA (endorsed company)Insurance and went with a company that gives the same coverage for a lot less money..

I've been a life member for many years. i never disagreed with their policy until HR2640 came along. i read all i could find about this law. the only thing i could find out was all gun control people and organizations were in favor of it. it really suprized me the nra backed it also. i have never seen a gun control law as a good thing for gun owners. i called,wrote and emailed the nra and recieved no answer except i was told the American Leigion also backed the bill that was a flat out lie. i called for my self and asked. it seems the nra would lie to members sothey would think this was a good law. i have since resigned from the nra and want nothing to do with them as long as the lieing people in charge of this orginization are in power. i have since joined GOA. it may not be as large or powerful but membership is growing each day. the nra is losing members because they are not truthful and sell out members . 0 -
Who knows this may be a wake up call for the NRA, only thing I see is the power of all the Members who belong to the NRA making a statement even if the NRA fails us. You can bet the anti-gunners clap their hands everytime the NRA loses members. 0 -

I only paid $100 for my life membership. That means the magazine has only cost me $2.50/yr so far. I also got a 1911 pistol for $17 including shipping back when you had to be a member of the NRA to buy from the DCM. I have no regrets. They have wasted FAR more than that on postage over the years trying to get more money from me.
They just sent me an offer to upgrade to Endowment for $175.
They also offered Gift Life Memberships for $300.
If you have a family menber who is a life member they can get you one of these memberships for the $300 price. (Must be by Feb, 15th.)0 -
