Might be a stupid question (VIDEO) New Question???

I have a JVC digital tape camcorder. I want to copy a DVD to digital tape. The book says I can use a IEEE 1394 (Firewire) cable from camcorder to DVD recorder/player and copy either way. Problem is my DVD recorder/player doesn't have a IEEE 1394 port.

The book also says I can copy tape to DVD with the Audio/VID cables (red/white/yellow), but it doesn't mention whether you can also copy disk to tape.

If I try it with the Audio/VID cables and it doesn't work, will it just not work or will it also fry my camcorder???

    This is confusing, a diagram would help! It will not fry anything. But you need an output on the device you are recording from and an input on the device you are recording too. So if your JVC has firewire input or left/right audio and video input, you can use either of these mediums.

    Firewire is better since it is a digital signal as apposed to analog.

    slipgate, I think you've answered my question.

    This is a picture of my analog cable. I've used it to copy digital tape to DVD as the book says I can do. What I wasn't sure of was if I use this cable and hit play on the DVD and record on the camcorder, if that is something it can't do, would it fry something.

    I'd rather use the firewire, but the DVD doesn't have a firewire port, so I can't.

    What you are trying to do all depends if your camcorder has a "video input". If it does, and has the proper jacks, it'll work. Some camcorders do, some don't. Post the model number of your camcorder, maybe there is a manual online I can read.

    Mercury, the model number is GR-D347U, but I've pretty well read the manual. It does have a video in through the IEEE 1394 firewire, but it doesn't say if the analog works both ways. Since slipgate says he doesn't think it will fry anything, I'm thinking I'll just wire that sucker up and see what happens.

    OK, that didn't work. I don't think I've ever seen a DVD recorder/player with a IEEE 1394 firewire port, so even if I wanted to spend that kind of money, I guess that option is out.

    Next Question:

    Does anybody know of a program that will copy a DVD which is written by a DVD recorder (not a camcorder) to hard drive on a computer and write it in a format which a video editor program can read?
