Hunters, what knife do you use?
Im looking for a new hunting knife. What knife do you use and how do you like it?

1st---Pabooger, I need to get with you about the cutco knife. It is the sharpest, best bone cutting utensil I have ever had. I got one from an estate sale 35 years ago and I need it sharpened.
Back to subject: best hunting knife?
As a hunting rig: I always carry a ruger super blackhawk, 44 mag, 6 1/2 barrell, in a western quick draw holster: attached leather knife holster with accompanying 12" blade case fillet knife.
I know it's thin, but it's hard and flexible. And, there's no bad critters in my entire regional scope that walk on 2 or 4 legs that I can't slide it between 2 ribs,reach the heart, and cut off everything inside that critter with a few waves of the blade. I may end up on bottom with a bear, a hog or a wild dude; but at least I'll walk or crawl away!

Wilderness Explorer...I have owned it for almost 25 years. I have dressed over 30 deer with it. It has holds a great edge and has a
saw edge on the top of the blade that easy work of the chest.0 -
i have a 3" blade hunting knife made by Max Chaney in Jacksonville Al
i have used the past 20 years. i've never seen a better knife, custom,or production.0 -

The knives of Alaska are hard to beat. The camp knife is the only one I don't own......YET
pick up an Alaskan Bear Cub and you'll be all set for gutting and field dressing. Then just skin them with a rope, golf ball and four wheeler[;)]0 -
I used to use a Buck drop tip folder until I lost it. But for the last several years I use a fixed blade Schrade + PH 2. They are made in the USA. I think a drop tip is the only way to go with deer. I don't see what these new fangled hook tip knives really accomplish.
About a 3 inch drop tip knife is all you need. I butcher my deer with the same knife, too!0 -
Hivoltg, Ive skinned them like that using a round rock and a truck. But not all of our campsites in Az have trees tall enough or strong enough for elk. 0 -

I understand. Not many elk around North Ms though LOL.
I actually made a boom that slides in the receiver on a 4X4 truck that we hang the deer from. It was a roller on the bottom for the rope to go through and you are pulling straight down on the hide. I also machined a piece of steel to use, instead of the golf ball. It is almost twice the size of a golf ball and looks like a big bearing
