the only thing that should be illegal is action taken with a certain item. the item is in an of itself blamless. i can kill you juts as easily with a pencil as with that knife.

i hope they are`nt banned! i get them sent to me from a company in florida...they are good, i`ve even skinned a wallaby with them..bans are useless.
banning them would only make people want them more, as an example. those little .22 and .22 magnum revolvers that are made by north american arms are only worh $200 or $300 in the u.s. but if you smuggled 1000 of them here you would get $1000 + for each of them and sell them all within a week...they are allegal here, anything with a barrel under 4 inches is illegal here...in other words banning them creates a huge black market!0 -

those things are plenty sharp.

Well, the original executive letter opener has been around since at least the eighties, IIRC.
Ditto on the pricing. Choate sells it for $6, and I've seen them for $5.
The other one looks like Cold Steel's old plastic CAT Tanto, that they don't make anymore. The new one is made out of superior materials including a Kraton handle and lists for $12.

The Choate jobby had a fairly sharp, for a letter opener, edge, but wouldn't cut flesh without applying enough force to make a CD cut skin. I didn't try it on wallabys. It would've made a fair-to-passing stabbing instrument, on the order of a piece of splintered wood.
The obsolete CAT Tanto was a little better in the edge dept., less flexy, and I believe would've made stab wounds very close to what you'd get with a steel blade. The pointed pommel was purty hard nosed, too.
