Texas Concealed Carry Question- Mom with a Gun
For Texas-
My wife teaches at a private school which happens to meet in a church.
One of the mom's carrys a concealed firearm- she said so to the school Admininistrator. There is NO sign on the door prohibiting weapons. She carries during school Monday thru Friday and NOT during church services.
Assume the church people don't know.
Is her carrying legal?
My wife would like to do the same BTW.
I will print responses and present to the Admin. at the school only.

Here in Washington it wouldn't be legal because:
a. Its a school
b. Its a church
I don't know about the church rule, but as far as I know the school one is pretty much universal, even private schools.
You can carry in a church with the presiding ministers permision. I'm not sure why that matters, but laws don't exaclty have to make sense.0 -
I live in Houston and from my understanding no it's not legal. You can't carry in churchs in Texas or schools. I was told by the Sheriff that taught my class I could leave it in the car though if I had to go get my daughters from their school. 0 -

I don't know if it's legal or not, but if it turns out not legal, I wouldn't give a copy of this to the Administrator. It would make it hard for him to ignore it if you bring it to his attention.0 -
Illegal. Here in TX we cannot carry into a school or church.
It is a private school, so that might allow wiggle room on that portion, but it meets in a church. No wiggle room there.0 -
medic, it depends on how the law is written. Here in Virginia the law says we can't carry in church during church services. I think there is another disclaimer in it, but I don't remember what it is.
If your law is written similar to ours, there might be a little wiggle room.0 -
As far as school, I would be very hesitant because of the current hysteria about school shootings. Supposed somehow your piece got spotted and SWAT called. Your butt is screwed.
As far as church, man you really need it there. More money gets ripped of in a church than in a bank. If you drop it in church, just tell preacher you meant to drop it in collection plate. No fowl. Tom

I don't tell people to use a search engine when they're asking opinions on guns, gunsmiths, etc. However, most, if not all, states have their gun laws online, including a FAQ page where you can learn most of what you want to know. I actually called the Indiana State Police with a question I had a few weeks ago. You can get a lot of answers from a forum, and we all mean well, but you could go to jail if we give you wrong information.

She will just have to leave the gun in the car during classes.

It is legal in church unless otherwise posted. However, it is illegal at a public or private school and is still illegal if it is left in the vehicle unless you are peace officer.

The only slight problem is they were stealing from his neighbors and if they follow the law he won't be charged. If it had been his "lawn rake" he wouldn't of had a chance of being charged.0 -
dano, dammmit boy, you are missing the whole thing. It just did not belong to the shootee. Don't make no difference if your neighbor's or yours. In my case, it probably would have ment they were stealing my stuff since my neighbor never returns anything anyway. Come to think of it, I don't either.

Topkick- I might suggest one thing. Of course it depends on the church, and in general I would sort of expect a big "NO" once you throw it out there.
IF she can't carry into the church because it is a school, perhaps the church leadership would let her safely keep a handgun on the property full time.

I believe you are right.
A church that rents out rooms for a school certainly would not allow a carry weapon. To much liability there and you know about kids....
I missed out on the old days when kids could bring a rifle to school and shoot targets after class.
I work for a banking facility and we get robbed all the time. (4) per year. Yesterday again as a matter of fact.
I'm usually working on AC equipment on the roof or in the basement so I don't worry too much.
But, I cannot carry here, have a weapon firearm in my truck- except for my Cold Steel TiLite.0
