Banned toys.
That lawn dart thread got me thinking about toys I had that were either banned or never seen again. How about you. I'll start with a couple.
Clackers- you know the string with two 1 1/2 inch balls at the end that you smacked together to make a lot of noise, (when you werent knocking the crap out of yourself with them)

i remember the clackers i think we called them clacker balls.
try finding cap guns now days there few and far.

try finding any metal toy guns. sticks are still plentifull i played with a lot of them as a kid . [:D] 0 -
The balls on strings were called k-nockers around here. And what about those old dart guns. With the suction cup tips, a real strong metal spring. The dart would really fly.

Pop Rocks that would really crack and pop in your mouth?
Mopeds & Mini Bikes used to be everywhere, now are just about legislated/regulated/priced out of existence.
When I was a kid, Pipe bombs were OK to have and make, at least no-one thought much of it, if you didn't blow one up under the sheriff's car...I used to make craters in the Desert and flip abandoned cars with them - the bigger the better.
Remember fishing with m-80s?
Any farmer could have a case of Dynamite for blowing stumps - lotsa fun!!0 -

I can buy the MORTARS a mile from my home,in West Palm Beach, at a place called "SKY KING" fireworks.Black cats too, and the FAKE M-80's. They make U sign a paper that states you are using them for "AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES"0 -
Toys-R-Us has banned toy guns.
Went there a few years ago to buy my son some new cap guns/rifles ect. Couldn't find them so I asked the manager and he said we don't sell toy guns cause it's a bad influence on kids. I told him I played cowboys and Indians when I was a kid and I'm not a serial killer.
I've never been back since and tell my friends not to go there.[;)]0 -

I do miss the true "M-80's. I won't say I didn't make any bombs whem I was much youngern but we used to used 35mm film cannisters and FFFF black powder with paraffin wax and cannon fuse. I grew up on mini-bikes and dirt bikes. We played cowboys and indians (casino indians, not slushie indians), war, cops & robbers. We shot AT each other with our BB guns until one of us got hit really good and it hurt. Then we'd stop for a day or so and not tell anyone. Mostly we played with sticks and stuff. We'd go out early and not come home 'til we were "hollered" for. Things sure have changed. 0 -

We Always played war up At the old Public School (even Baught E Tools at the surplus store to make ourselves fox holes)
We built a fort in the bushes behind my parents house, and as of a few months ago it was still there

We called the balls on a string "knock knocks" and I'm pretty sure they were banned from school property almost immediately after they came out; too many kids hurting themselves.

Remember from the 60's the paddle ball with the rubber band and red rubber ball?
My younger brother popped the ball in his mouth and chewed on it a while.
5 min later he started screaming and blood was running from his mouth.
A trip to the emergency room later, the doc removed a #3 treble hook from his inside cheek and tongue.
Now the ball is stapled to the ball.
I remember it like yesterday.0
