I never heard of Rock Island Armory ?
I never heard of rock island armory pistols . i was looing at one a 45. and now thinking of buying but not sure if its a good pistol if anyone can help me out let me know what you think and if you have ever used or own one thanx alot

My buddy had one and used to love to blast of rounds. Was a lot of fun and ran across no major problems. Or minor for that matter.

I have 7 of them. They are the best bang for the buck out there. They also are fully upgradeable useing all the popular parts such as Wilson Combat with only minor fitting (which is true of most of the popular 1911's).
I believe the statement in my signature line really says it all:

...Why not buy the real thing, at least your Colt will appreciate and not depreciate.
...Colt....shoot, fondle, enjoy and like money in the bank with a high interest rate, watch the value go up and up.

I could easily sell my RIA's for as much if not more than I paid for them right now without a problem.
The prices on RIA's has started going up as the word on the dependability of these guns is starting to get out in a big way!0 -
Just ask yourself...do you want a Philippian COPY of America's classic pistol, or the real thing? Pretty easy answer, IMHO! I would much rather have a S&W 45 ahead of the RIA. And no, the RIA will NEVER be as in demand as a Colt, and the price going up on them is a market factor. EVERYTHING is going up! 0 -

If I came across sounding that way...sorry. The dealings I have had with RIA have not been good. And I am not a fan of buying foreign made copies of American made classics. Kinda like buying a Philippino-made 57 Chevy. Why bother? It is just a copy. No history behind it. They just stole a name to give it artificial history. 0 -

Is Kevin a Rock Snob?
I own Browning, Remington, Beretta, Ruger, etc...and I am just as passionate about the models of those I own as I am about my Colt's.
...ANYTIME/ANYTHING I say to Kev about his Rock's is said to get a rise...and he knows it dude. Him and I have traded light hearted barbs about Colts and Rocks several times...it's all in good fun, and I don't think Kev needs you to come to his defense; he's quite capable of defending the Rock himself. I don't know anyone more knowledgable on Rocks than Kev.
...ALL 1911's since John Moses Browning came up with his venerable original design, ARE copies, clones, wannabies, plain simple fact. RIA's have a loyal following, Im sure.

It is a "no contest" when it comes to the appreciation in value of a Colt vs a Rock, simple fact.
...Example...one Colt I bought less than a year ago has appreciated enough that just the appreciation alone would buy a NIB Rock, all accessaries, with money left over, fact; many Rocks do that?
...Suburban, how many Colt 1911's have you handled/own, compared side by side for fit and finish to a Rock? Still want to say the fit and finish of a Rock is even close to that of a Colt? That's not to say Colt hasn't slipped out a few POS in their runs, as they have, real dogs now and then...the middle, late 80's was not a good time for them.
...Think that the best Rock will run smooth as butter as a Custom Shop Colt, if you do, you have not played with a nice Colt, there is no comparison; and that is NOT to knock a Rock (Im rhyming and I like it![8D]), just another fact.

IMO the RIAs are all right. The Colt is nicer but costs 3X as much. You decide. For a shooter the RIA seems just fine. If you don't like clones (I tend to prefer the genuine thing, myself, but I do have the one RIA and I have a couple of Italian SAA clones)) or don't like to buy foreign goods that's your choice. But as far as the quality of the RIAs is concerned they appear to be decent. A good value for the price.
On the right is a genuine Colt Series '70 Super and on the left is the RIA in .38 Super. For $350 new the RIA is a Hell of a deal for shooter grade pistol.0 -

Those are both genuine ivory. The RIA wears a set that have some scrimshaw on the other side but I don't know what they are worth as they were a gift from a friend many years ago. The Colt ivories were bought for $155 from a guy who says he used to work for Colt making their ivory stocks. 0 -

Get a Sistema (Colt clone). The one with D.G.F.M.-F.M.A.P. on the slide. It's truely a Colt, made on Colt machinery w/Colt Q/A during manufacture.
Made with Swedish steel. ALL parts same as pre '70 1911. Reasonably priced.
Now, that's the most bang for the buck. Joe0 -
I like mine. It's been AK reliable right out the box and is one of my favorite shooters. Thinking I might get some better sights dovetailed on it soon. It currently is my truck gun.

I wasnt calling you, or any one a snob. Ive handled maybe 10 colts in my life. All of them were very old and had price tags of 2,000+. I didnt realize you were just rippin' on GRD. It just reminded me of when I first started shooting at Knight's Indoor Range. I showed up with my AK, started shooting, and all i got was dirty looks from all the guys shooting ARs. I put maybe 400 rounds down range. They were only shooting maybe 50 rounds in the same time. Seemed like they were worried about breaking something or something. Anyways, no harm meant. And colts are definately nicer, than most of the 1911's out there, and they are THE original.0 -
