Sparano's Dolphins deal: 4 years, nearly $11M

''I don't really care what happened in the past,'' Sparano said, who signed a four-year deal worth just under $11 million.[:0] ``I'm not afraid of challenges. I look forward to them.''
Sparano's hiring puts the finishing touches on a new trifecta of power in Miami, which also includes vice president of football operations Bill Parcells[:D] and general manager Jeff Ireland[:D].
Owner Wayne Huizenga, who has invested millions in this fresh start hopes his money will finally get the Dolphins back on a track toward success that the organization hasn't felt in years.
Sparano will begin assembling his staff immediately. Look for Sparano to soon contact Cowboys secondary coach Todd Bowles and Cowboys linebackers coach Paul Pasqualoni (both who have expiring contracts in Dallas) about joining his new staff in Miami.[:0]
During his news conference, Sparano noted his high respect for Parcells, whom he credited for getting him to the point where he is ready to be a head coach.
''I know Coach Parcells is here as a resource for me and I'm going to use him every way I can,'' Sparano said. ``He's been through a lot of battles. He's won a lot of battles in this league, and I respect him tremendously.
