    Read a little on the expert side but that gets cut short quick. Heard a little on the bad side but no exact on what it did or why they do not like it.

    So from those who have one what do you not like about it and why please be specific.

    I have heard good things about the Taurus 1911. A friend has one that he says is very accurate and likes it very much. A friend of his bought one because of this advise.
    We were at the range yesterday with his new Taurus and after about 30 rounds he began to have failure to fire. We assumed it was the white box winchester ammo that he got at Wally world. After about another 20 - 30 rounds, pieces fell off the gun !!!!!
    It was the safety and the plungers and spring that hold in the slide lock and the safety. We found all the pieces.
    Now the question:
    Was the safety not fully installed at the factory? Meaning not locked in by the plunger? It is the ambidexterous safety.
    Was the dimple in the safety not properly machined?
    Was the plunger that holds the safety in not properly machined?
    Were the failure to fires caused by the safety working its way out of the frame and therefore not allowing the grip safety to work correctly which would allow the firing pin to not hit the primer as hard as it should because it was binding or not fully disengaging?

    I do not have the gun with me, of course, and did not inspect it fully. I am sure he will be sending it back to Taurus for inspection and repair, but what are your thoughts. It would be a waste to send it back to Taurus if the only thing wrong with it was that it was not correctly assembled (all parts OK but safety was not fully inserted). If that is the case, would it be OK to just assemble it correctly and try it again?
    I was thinking about getting one, but after this, I am not so sure.

    Saw one of these at the gun store for $480 nice grips (Walnut) maybe 300 rounds through it, nice clean gun and I think it has had some custom work done to it good deal or not??? Not real familiar with 1911 makers/versions...

    I've read where they have a lot of problems with the safety's on the PT1911 but I took those stories with a grain of salt because of all the Taurus basher's out there but I was at my local gunshop last Friday and they had a new stainless PT1911 that had just came in. I was thinking about buying it and was holding it and engaged the safety. It didn't feel right so I pushed the safety down and it popped out. I guess I won't be buying one right now.

    I have put 800+ rounds through my PT1911. All of it was cheaper 230gp ball (although no Wolf).

    I have had zero failures of any kind.

    Everything is still tight and the action is smooth. Must be a lemon as all the other people I've talked to about them have had no problems either.

    I was looking at one at the Sportsman's Warehouse and the ambi-safety was loose. Sounds like a problem to me.

    this is the 2nd time this ? has come up over the last couple days I like taurus, own 5 of them looked at the 1911 and decided on the springfield arms instead same reasons.

    Taurus knows about the problem !!!!
    It seems that they are having a lot of problems with the STAINLESS models only. Different vendor, I guess, or if they make them theirselves, a machining problem. They are out of stock at Taurus at this time. Was advised to just order one from Brownells !!!!!
