So Tomahawk got me REALLY wondering.
How do you go about getting this tax relief of 800 bucks? Is there an application, is there a lottery for people who made under 80gs, or does the govt, just check your taxes when you file, and mail you a check?

awesome! That sounds too simple. I figured if the government was going to just give away free money, i would at least have to fill out 5-10 pages of BS paperwork, or just tell them im an illegal alien. 0 -

Its a rebate on your personal income taxes designed to boost the economy.
It hasn't been passed yet, but looks probable. A couple of "downsides", though: Bush had to separate it from his proposal to make earlier temporary tax cuts permanent - Democrats wouldn't go for that. (If the temp cuts which have been in place for the past few years go away, the $800 will look like peanuts in a couple of years).
Secondly, its a rebate, so if you didn't pay at least $800, you don't get anything; does nothing for the poor / social security recipients, but then that's not the intention..
Of course, if your wife works, you could be in line for two $800 rebates; wouldn't that be grand?

I think you can count on a cap of some sort. Since I'm paying about $800 per day in combined federal and state income taxes it is really big of Uncle Sam to consider kicking back one days tariff. 0 -
Bad idea. We're $53 Trillion over obligated and deep in debt with out the ability to pay our foreign creditors. And they want to give away revenue? Of course the people just look at it like it's extra money in their pockets, when in reality it's only more debt. 0 -

We need to be careful here. Everybody loves to bash the illegals, and I'm no big fan myself. As bad as they are, though, the staggering number of American citizens, native-born citizens--who are on welfare. Call it disability, medicare, social security, SSI, farm subsidies, AFDC, whatever, a staggering number of Americans are supported fully or in part by the federal and state governments.
It's especially galling when you see what the massive expansion of entitlement benefits has done to the percentage of federal money that goes to the military. Compare the percentage of the federal budget that went to the military in say, 1950 to what percentage goes to the military today. It's shocking.
So enjoy today, enjoy tomorrow, and then back to work on Monday. Millions of people on welfare are depending on you.0 -

I looked at some numbers which said that in 1950 military spending was 5% of GNP and then shot up to 13.3% in 1953 (Korean War). Today the little pie-chart that comes with your tax return booklet shows we are spending 19% of our budget on the military so I agree...SHOCKING!0 -

great suggestion, i really dig the M468, i'm hoping someone will build a reasonably priced alternative to the barett. the msrp on it is $2700 or you can get an upper conversion kit for the low low price of $1590

If they can just create money out of thin air why just $800? Give everyone $100,000. They could then pay off their stupid adjustable mortgages & all our problems would be over.
