I finally did it

I got so pissed off at hitting the caps lock button every time I typed an a that i stuck an exacto knife in there and poped the key right off the board...man that thing makes me mad!!

    Completed my appliation for FFL type 1. I've been thinking and talking about it for 10 years. I'm trying to decide if I should send it in now, and apply for an ammended license in 6 months when I move, or just wait.
    I'm leaning towards mailing it today so I don't have a hance to put it off another decade, but I talked to a local agent and he suggested it would be easier to just wait.

    I guess one thing to consider is any potential application approval delays associated with residency issues. If you are currently well established, will the move cause an additional waiting period if you apply after you reestablish residency? Also, do you need it now or can you wait?

    I can certainly wait, it will be a secondary income only. I just don't realy want to give myself the chance to put it off again like I've done so many times before.

    Then I guess if the move doesn't overly complicate matters, go for it!

    Are you planning to move to a different state, or just a diff. town?
    If to another state, u may wanna wait?

    Before applying you need to check where you are moving to and make sure that you will be in a zoning area where you can sell guns, find out what you will need for local permits or licensed, and the requirements for operating a gunshop there are. I would wait and make certian that I had everything, especially the zoning, in order before applying. ATF will check with your zoning officer where you are now before issuing you a FFL and then will have to do it again for your new location. And it will take 2 - 3 months to receive the FFL, then as soon as you move it will be no good. I think you would be a lot better off waiting.

    I will be moving within state, infact staying in the same county. The city I live in now, and the one I am moving too both allow for firearm sales, so zoning is not a problem.

    I know I should just wait. I just hope I dont put it off for ever when I move [V]

    I just had my interview and the agent gave me a form to apply for an amended license(just in case I moved.) She didn't act like it was any big deal, just would have to come out and make sure I was meeting any zoning in the new location. Of course, once you move, you cannot continue to use the old address unless your store is still open there.

    I would say it would kind of depend on how far you are away from a field office. I was 200 mi. from the field office the first time, now they have one 30 mi. away. It was hard to get any one out the first time. Of course that had its advantages too. Then some of the bigger shops started doing stupid stuff and brought the ATF in for a major bust. Now we have our own local field office...
