P89 vs P85

whats the difference?

:And on a side note, ive posted a lot of gun questions whereas i usually post some stupid stuff. Im really getting into shooting now, before it was just spraying lead, now for me, its a little more about precision.

    The precision part was for my new ARs. I just got a chance to shoot a p89 yesterday and it was SMOOTH as could be!

    The P85 was the first p-series to come out. They had only been out a year or so and they recalled all of the P85s because of a potential saftey problem. If I remember right one gun out of something like 200,000 discharged when the saftey engaged and the hammer dropped.

    All the P85s were recalled for modification, and the new manufacture pistols were called a P89.

    Actually they were recalled and then they came out with the P85 MKII which fixed the problem. I don't think there is a difference between the P85 MKII and the P89 other than the name due to the notedproblem with the P85.

    I believe the 85s also had a slight firing pin problem (breakage). Mine went back twice. The second time it locked up the gun. 20 years later and not a hickup.

    Unless your just stuck on the 85/89, I would try shooting the P97. It's a 45 and shoots accurate and smooth, just doesn't like cheap ammo.

    Yes the P85 was recalled for a safety feature. When fixed the new safety was stamped MKII. The P85 was made from 1987-92 and the P89 came out in 92. The P89 has a smoother and lighter trigger pull and better grip panels. There may be other internal upgrades but I am not sure what they would be.

    My first handgun was a p89DC. I really liked it. It wasn't terribly accurate. Better than my para carry conceal gun, but not even close to my Kimber large frame. Still a very good gun. Gave to my BIL Dave. He died so now one of his kids has it or probably a pawn shop.[V]

    Got ya, stay away from the P series, then whats an accurate 9mm, thats not a glock? Something like a Charles Daly 9mm?
