AR Upper
Planning on going to gunshow tomorrow to look for an upper for my DPMS trying to decide between 6.8 Rem ot .450 Bushmaster will mainly be used for deer and hogs

went to the gun show today, I took one revolver
I trade a dan wesson for a 24 stainless bull barrel with
bolt assy.[:p]
now I have a functioning AR, not just a lower in my

One more question about AR Uppers. If i mount a scope on there, will it sit higher than the front sight will? or would i have to remove the front sight, or get an upper without a front sight?
Edit, im talking about a flat top upper. I dont like the look of the ones with the scope mnounted oun the carry handle.0 -

I know but what if i want to slap on a carry handle, later? Am i forced to buy two uppers? Or is there some sort of block i can install on a picatinny rail that would make the scope sit up higher?0 -

In short, what I did was just buy a barrel and a free float tube instead of buying a new upper. I know it sucks but you can't have it both ways
that front sight was high enough to mess up my sight picture.0 -

AND PS: My dad just beat me to finding the better deal on an Upper. 16 inch Colt upper, heavy barrel, near new, 300 BUCKS. DAMN HIM.0 -
It might cost a little more But you might stop and think this through if you haven't already
I asked myself what I wanted to do with my AR. and how much I was going to spend. Knowing that I did not want to buy a 2nd upper at the time I could spend the money on the cool stuff.
Varmint/Casual match shooting- I put on a DPMS 1-7" 24" SS fluted tube with a target crown Chambered in .223 (not 5.56)
Then for the Gas tube I used the one off of my 5.56 assembly.
Barrel nut and (the free float tube I wanted BIG! and vented) to disperse heat.
The endless options are there! Don't rush a project gun (sounds like your building one)[:D]0 -

Go long bbl, go fast twist! 1-9" will work fine for ya

Yep,......I have one, and it works just fine.
I have a detachable carry handle, and the standard front sights.
Mine is a Tapco for what it's worth.0 -
You can get a flip up front sight. You can get just about any rear sight you want on the picaninny system. I may have to build me a flat top. Mine will be a .308, though. 0 -
You can buy and install riser blocks on an A3 top to get your scope up where it belongs.
Like was already mentioned the best way to go if you want a front sight post for when you occasionally remove the scope and add the carry handle is to put a flip up front sight.
I have hat scopes on an AR with the front sight post in the way and when you looked through the scope the front sight was not even visable.
put a quarter on the lense of a good scope and look through the scope. You will not even see the quarter.0
