    just for yucks I googled the offensive word in question and, well, the internet loves the word.

    Wikipedia had an interesting statement to the effect that it may not always have been offensive.

    I always thought it came into being when the english police substituted the letters on arrest records in place of "for unlawful carnal knowledge" but Wiki did not include that.

    My New Years Resolution is to give up that one and the "S" word. Wish me luck.
