OK Computer Experts...and no this does not...
need to be moved to the Experts Forum SP[;)][:D]
After searching my computer I've been able to locate my missing mail files but I cannot get them back into Outlook Express...nor can I open them. I c&p'ed them to a file in "MY Documents" and I've tried every possible way I can think of to import them back into OE with no luck whatsoever. Anyone have any ideas???

Dude this is so simple.
To save an E-mail
1. create a new folder on your desktop
2. copy E-mail and paste or save in that folder
3. to open right click on file...Choose open with...Select Outlook Express...
It is know back in OE and you can do WTH you wish~~~~
You do not seem to understand the problem...someone or something deleted ALL of my email...inbox, outbox, sentbox, drafts, journal, etc, etc, etc, on 2 January 08. I have located what I think is a backed up copy of those emails (1.2GB worth) and C&P'ed it to a folder in "My Documents". I now cannot get those files back into Outlook Express.
The timing of this mysterious mail deletion was very coincidental with someone's expulsion from the forum. I have lost a few mails since then as well. I don't know what's going on.0 -
Are you running Norton products...they really screw with OE 0 -
maybe you have got some wierd virus or something hiding there somewhere...if you know a computer whizz kid near you grab `em and see if they can help, they can`t make it much worse by the sound of it eric. 0 -
Do the files in said folder end with .eml If not it is not an OE email file 0 -
Maybe you should post your home address and Paleobrute can come over and give you a hand. 0 -

I've already sent it to him...along with my phone number and an offer to provided directions. One could only hope he'd show up and we could get better acquainted...it'd beat the hell out of underhanded tactics...0 -

Ok. most of the advice you are getting it for Outlook not outlook express. What should work unless your .dbx or .bak files are corrupted is to open up outlook express. The click on file, import, then c lick on messages. locate the files and import them. Same with your address book. After you get your email and address book back up and running, click on file, import/export and export your addressbook in an excel format file.
this is one reason i don't like responding to computer questions, i made it 100% clear i was talking about oe in microsoft "office"
ecc you didn't mention they where split into 2 files, you will not be able to import them in their current format period0 -
Outlook express is not part of Office. Outlook express is part of Windows. The full version Outlook is part of Office.
Ecc: If I have time at work today and you are free this afternoon, I'll see if I can remote in and fix the issue. If you can access your email from the web, shoot me an email (in profile) and I'll give you better contact info.0 -
Eric, go to C:\Documents and Settings
Open the folder, and you should see 4 folders depending how many acoounts you have set up.
Should be Administrator, All Users, Default user, and then another that matches what your log in page title is.
Open the last folder that matches that name.
Open local settings, then application data, then identities.
Once again depending upon how many accounts you have there will be a number of folders with seemingly senseless text next to them.
Open one at a time,.......you will see a folder named Microsoft, open that, then you will see Outlook Express.
Open that, and that is where your .dbx folder files should be.
If they are not there, move your .dbx files you have saved into that folder, and reboot.
Start Outlook Express, and see if your folder structure has been restored.
Also an easy way to find that last exact folder for your account is to open Outlook Express, and go to tools,......options,.....maintenance.
Click the store folder button, that is the exact path of your messages, and if not there, is where you should place the .dbx files, as that is where the e-mail program is looking for them.
Make sure to click cancel so you don't change the path.
You may need to highlight the path to be able to see it, and ctrl C, and ctrl V it to notepad or Word,........that will give you the exact location that OE is looking for your files in.0 -

Marc...there are 6 identities listed...and we only have 4 separate email accounts. They are also identified by a series of numbers and letters. How do I identify the correct identity and if I'm able to drag the files over to the correct identity, will they merge with the existing files...or will they just replace them.?.?
Fep...I may take you up on your offer a little later!
Thanks for all the help guys.0 -
Eric..... My son does this for a living. Would you like me to have him email you to see if he can help. 0 -

If you log into "your" account,......the one that is messed up, and follow the red directions above, that will point you to "your" store folder location.
I would then try an import from that store file if it appears intact.
I just tried to call you but got an answering machine. That is my number on caller ID, if you would like to call me back, and we can step through this real quick.
If my method does not work, you will need more help than I can provide.0 -

Someone suggested that I change the file that these Compressions are stored in to a folder in My Documents...I did this last week and now I do not know where they used to go. Could you email me your phone number again...I guess I should back my email up more often...Thanks.0 -
If I knew which identity that this account was, I could try to drag the files over....I just don't know how to determine which identity it is... 0 -
If zip were reading this, he'd be laughing his ass off.

OK...Marc...I rebooted to an earlier date and the path for the compressed/backup files has been reset to my default (original) settings, but I've lost all of my email again. I now have 0 emails...the mail from 3 Jan through today is gone as well. 0 -
