Neat old family school days photo..
My Mom attended a one room school with one teacher that taught 1st through 8th grade.
She is a third grader here. Front row in the striped shirt and hands in her pocket.
Mom was such a tom-boy that she was made to wear pants to school..[:0]
Her older sister is in the back row also with a striped shirt.
Mom passed away in 1994 and I do not know when the photo was taken..
The school sat on a hill and was held up with large wooden timbers and coal was stored under it to heat the school in the Winter. I remember the building well from when I was a kid and it has long been torn down. A stone church is still located at the same place and the two buildings faced each other at one time.

The thing that cracks me up about the photo is the guy standing behind Mom.
I was told that the girl behind the teacher and the one on the far right in the back row and the one in the white dress in the front row are his sisters. They all three have the same hair style.

This is my Grand father and grand Mother. Grand ma died when I was about two and I did not know her at all. Grand Dad was a full blooded Cherokee who's family moved to this area along with other families during the 1820's or 30's to escape from being sent to OK.
He lived without running water and heated his home and cooked with coal and wood up until he died in the early 90's.0 -
Lot's of Cherokee in WVa. before coal was "discovered." My grandmother was said to be part Cherokee from Mingo county. She would have been born in 1880's. No one in my family knows any details of her family tree. 0 -

Mainly local girls from the 1890s thru WWII....
Very interesting to see what some of these Grandma looked like back in the day....
Some of them were smoken' hot!!!!
Maybe I'll post a few in the future...

The sad thing about my grand Dad's passing.
When he died he had three Henry Rifles, two 1866's and three 1873's. The 66's and 73's were bought new by members of his family during the time when they were manufactured. I do not remember if the Henry's were bought new or not. Within two weeks of his passing the rifles disappeared and no one will say what happened to them. I have searched for them for over ten years now and will never give up trying to locate his rifles even thou I know it will be a snow balls chance of ever getting them back.0 -

Sad.... my ex's family had a rare $50 gold piece come up missing when her grandpa died..(est. $40,000)0
