Even in our small town of 150 people we have two listed offenders, seems to me that is a 1/75 ratio, way to high.

A sex offender moved into an Okmulgee County neighborhood, now residents are outraged. The man was released from prison in November, says he's rehabilitated and living in the county legally. The News On 6's Chris Wright reports most people would not be happy to learn that a sex offender is living across the street, but some in Okmulgee County have taken steps to make it very clear that this offender is not welcome.
There is a sign that states a sex offender does live there. The News On 6 agreed not to identify him, but he was convicted for hiring underage prostitutes, and did spend more than a decade in prison. That's where Pastor Pearl Qualls met him. She agreed to allow him to live next door to her when he was released and vouches for his character.
"All I'm asking is the neighborhood just give this man a chance, give him a chance. Quit throwing stones at him," said Pastor Qualls.
Pearl says the sign will only make the offender more of an outcast and even possibly put him at risk.
"I fear for my life and his too. If the sign's not taken down, like I said, I think it's a danger to us," said Pastor Qualls.
Neighbors say the sign is simply a public service message.
It is a small, rural, spread out community here in Okmulgee County, but residents still wanted to make sure everyone knew a sex offender was living nearby and they say the sign is the best way to do that.
Brenda Cooksey does not own the property on which the sign sits and did not put it up, but like many in the neighborhoods, she supports it.
"We don't like it, we want him out of here. There's too many kids," said Cooksey.
Brenda says she hopes the sign stays put until the man across the street gets the message.
"We gotta protect our self, and this what it takes, this is what we'll do. We won't quit, we're not going to put up with it," said Cooksey.
The sex offender told The News On 6 that residential restrictions in Oklahoma City and Tulsa forced him to live in a rural area like Okmulgee County. He says he won't relapse and people have nothing to worry about, but his neighbors say they don't care, and they want him to live somewhere else.

Laws passed in Iowa a year or two ago have pushed alot of these sex offenders to small towns. It's not uncommon to see several sex offenders living in these small towns as they don't have the schools and day cares which prevent them from living there. 0 -

This is why they are bailing out of Tulsa area, they cant live near schools, daycares and a long list of other places. To me it is like Tulsa is tossing the trash at the small towns and we should not have this done to us.0 -

Seems as though you may have a thing against society identifying sexual offenders/predators...
Studies have shown recidivism rates are extremely high amongst this group of criminals. That's why their history is public knowledge so that parents can at least attempt to better protect their children when these deviants are known to be around.
Someone that molests a child doesn't deserve to live, IMO... they're lucky all they get is their photo published on a website. The crime is not at all similar to the adultry of the Scarlet Letter.0 -

Around here, they actually publish a picture of the offender in the local newspapers and have town meetings to discuss their release.
During those meetings, the Sheriff's Office goes to great lengths to inform the public of the rights of recently-released. And they don't even wink while doing it. So far, there have been no instances of citizenry gathering up torches and pitchforks and storming the porches of the offenders.
There are, to my knowlege, 25 offenders living in Logan County, including those in jail.0 -

Mateo. Of those 25 on the list in Logan County, I know of at least one whose case resembles that of your client.
And I know of several who pose the worst risk of repeating the offense.
So how do we separate the types of sex offenders?
The laws, as written, paint with too broad a brush, but they're the best we have right now.
To me, it's quite a leap from "Unwanted Sexual Contact" to "Sexually Violent Predator".0 -

I do want the death penalty for anyone that harms a child.
There is no rehabilitation for offenders. That has been shown. So even though they have done their time it doesn't mean that they're cured.
Sure your client falls into the same category even though he may not have committed a heinous offense. Maybe refinement of laws is in order.0 -

I agree the recidivism rate is high among this group. However I am not sure that I could say none of them never do it again.
I wish I knew the answer to this problem, but I do not. Do we accept that they have done their time and are now back into society and keep an eye on them or do we take a place like oh say...Baja California and stick them all there in their own community? I honestly dont know.
Murders are released into our midst all the time and we have no idea they are living down the street from us. At least I know where the sexual offenders are in my area.0 -

Because there are those who would find my not-yet-three-year-old daughter sexually attractive, I am in favor of the sex-offender lists. I'm not making any excuses, my attitude is born out of fear and hatred.
Because I have an IQ above 63, I would love to see some refinement in those laws. I have, in fact, dared to suggest it to friends of mine in law enforcement and have been met with stony silence.0 -

Since most drunk drivers re-offend too, we better put them up for the death penalty too. Especially since more of them exist than molesters. I would dare say drunk drivers are more of a risk than molesters.0 -

Im surprised the guy lasted 10 tears in prison! I was under the impression that even the most hardened criminals dont care much for Tree Jumpers.
Paster Pearl vouches for this preditors character probabaly because he feels that if God can forgive this guy then so can he.
Well I wonder if his victums or there families forgive him?

You say they'd had a long term relationship and apparently their ages are only very slightly outside the 3 yr. window allowed by law. A good attorney shouldn't have a problem getting a jury to take into account the totality of the circumstances here. [;)]

this paroled registered sex offender hired underage prostitutes.
He didn't rape anyone. He violated 2 laws. Paying for sex, and having sex with an underage woman, WHO WAS WILLING TO HAVE SEX WITH HIM IN EXCHANGE FOR MONEY.
I think each case should be judged individually. Just like mateo's client. He didn't "rape" the GF, he had sex with an underage girl, apparantly with her parents OK...now the relationship went south, and she's a "rape victim".
A true rapist/child molester deserves death. In the above mentioned cases, the "sex offender" should be allowed to live in peace, and the 18 y.o. "rapist" should be let go, with a warning to sleep with girls his own age, to protect himself.0 -

drunk drivers kill over 20,000 people a year and badly injure over 100,000.
parents form lynch mobs when a non-violent sexual offender moves into their neighoorhood but will gladly serve alcohol to a friend or relative that is about to go drive their car and kill someone.
when sex offenders start killing 20,000 people a year i will be in favor of a national database to identify them.
until then, i would like to know if the person driving the car next to me is a convicted drunk driver because he might not "touch" my daughter but KILL HER and ME !!
