March 22, 1968 Vietnam

Soon it will have been 40 years since my Company(A)4th 12th 199th walked into the biggest NVA Base Camp in South Vietnam. My platoon was point that day and we lost 3(KIA) and had 8 wounded. Couldn't retrieve the bodies until the next day. Can't get that day out of my head. I guess it's good to remember that day and the men that died.
Gotcher, Perlewitz, and Cayford.

    Had a neighbor's brother who served in Nam'. He showed me pics of some of the attrocities that our men endured. NOT a day at the beach.

    After seeing and hearing of what those men went through, I fully understand why he was, the way he was. My respect to all that served and are serving.

    Prangle, it DOES get easier with time doesn't it. I suppose the fellow who said "Time heals all wounds" got it right. For a while, I got to wondering he had never been "in country."

    Let's each open a can of cling peaches, and raise a toast.

    Lots of us will never know what many of you went through on the ground 24/7! Our missions were above the Tonkin Gulf or over land for brief periods of time, but afterwards we returned to a life of normalcy, or as normal as Carrier life could be when not flying. I hope you are okay!

    Prangle it is good to remeber the names of dead and wounded, remember the day only as an event that happened not as a defining moment in your life.
    My brother went to Viet Nam and he has never been the same, I wish there was something that I could do to help, but in my head I know that there isn't anything I can do to change anything that happened over there. I pray for all would were called on to fight in that war, and this war. for without the brave warriors of this country we would all be speaking another language. We are a better place because of those who serve. Thank you

    I didnt get in country until sept 68. Kontum province, Pleiku, 4th Division. There is no reason to forget your buddies, I have not forgot mine. Welcome home brother.

    I wish some Nam vets would get together and publish a book with first hand details of some of what our guys suffered over there. Lest the world forget.
