Tax rebate or tax advance ?
is the tax rebate an advance on your 2009 tax return or is this free money (I know, no tax money is free)? when I think of the word rebate I think of spending money and then receiving some of the money back in the future, after a company holds on to my money for a little while. if I remember correctly, the $300/$600 tax dollars sent in 2000 or 2001, was subtracted from the following years tax return.

I wish this was true. Unfortunately what is happening in most cases is that "they" are giving most people money put in by others. You see most of the people getting this "Rebate" paid no taxes to begin with. And the best yet is the illegals getting a rebate.0 -

Ok you are both way off...did you just make that up?...Here is the deal..You will get the check by mid april or may at the latest...Here is the break down...If you have a spouse and you both work its 600 a piece if you have kids under 18 you get 300 for them...so if you have one kid and you both work its 1500.00 and will come like a S.S check...I think it will come by april from what they say but could be may...Just depends...Also if you or your spouse Work but only make enough where you dont pay tax. I think it 599.00 or less you get 300.00....If you dont work you get notta...LIKE I SAID IF YOU DONT WORK OR DONT PAY TAXES YOU GET NOTTA0 -

You seem to have forgotten there is also an income limit. Not hard to make 150K if both husband and wife are working professionals and then we get Nada. Plus. these are the people paying the income tax bills for the country. Not the person making 30K and paying 4 K in tax.0 -
There's a whole lot more couples making 30-40k than couples making 150k+. We all pay! 0 -

You really don't understand the tax system, do you??? From the above response, didn't think so! As some one else said, there are a WHOLE lot more folks making $50k than there are folks making $150k. Add them all up and I bet you the tax from all the folks making $50k is greater than the tax from the folks making $150k. As my daddy said, "If you don't got it, you ain't got to pay it." Me? ty sir +1 to you...One of the best reponses to a post on here in a long time...Heres the thing..ill say it ill tell ya what we make...the wife an r.n 72,000 in 07 me 109,000 in 07 and guess what im happy i get notta and the people struggling get it..i hope they get all they can...im blessed..tomarrow i could have no job. like many have in the last 4 yrs...THE PEOPLE THAT THINK THEY GOT BUCKED BECAUSE THEY DONT GET 1500-3000 BECAUSE THEY MAKE 150,000 + MAKES ME SICK...How about the guy that was at his job 20 yrs and was non union and lost it because that company went under and now they are living in there car or a motel or he cant eat because he has just enough to feed the kids and he goes without food because they are more important....CMON PEOPLE...THIS IS BS0 -

Back4more - Not quite, the checks in 2003 were not subtracted from the following years tax return. They were simply an advance on a tax rate reduction for the Year 2003. These advances were based on your 2002 tax return. When you filed your 2003 tax return, if you were entitled to it but had not received it in the advance (Year 2002 did not have sufficient income for the tax rate reduction) then you got it at that time.
DKB - why should those who do not pay into a tax system get anything back. This is supposed to be a tax rebate, not welfare. Your prior post contradicts itself. One time you say if they don't make enough to pay taxes then they get $300. Then you state if "LIKE I SAID IF YOU DON'T WORK OR PAY TAXES YOU GET NOTTA"
If someone makes at least $3,000 but does not pay any taxes then they are still entitled to $300. How is this fair? Why should the people who make over $150,000 continue to supplement those who do not want to better themselves through education and/or training?

I've said it before and I will say it again. The earned income tax credit is the biggest tax fraud issue ever. All someone has to do is to lie a little and there are no systems of checks and balances to catch it. Example - Mom and Dad are married and have three kids. Mom makes $17,000 and Dad makes $24,000. Together, $41,000 is too much for earned income tax credit, so Mom files head of household with one kid (uses the street address) and Dad files head of household with the other two(uses a PO box). Mom now gets $2,600 of EIC and Dad gets $2,900 of EIC. They have now STOLEN $5,500 of our tax dollars and, other than sheer luck, there is nothing in the system to catch them.0 -

At least our Missouri Govenor announced he is pushing a bill through our state legislature to notpay state income tax on the rebate. 0 -
