President Bush Visit
Today Bush was in my hometown. It was reported a few days prior to his visit that he would be speaking at the local airport. I knew right off the bat that there is a kinda secret vantage point that over looks the airport in a wooded secluded area that few people know about and fewer know how to get to it. I thought it would be very interesting to go up there and see what police or secret service presence was there. In my opinion it would be a prime sniper location and thus it would surely be guarded by the SS or local police. When I arrived there sure enough a local cop car was there. However, there was no cop, just a car with a sign that read "Emergency, Road Closed". Well I didnt see a cop so I just walked on through. I walked through the woods until sure enough, I was directly over the airport with a perfect view down to his helicopter convoy, there were 4 of them. I used my rangefinder to get an exact distance and it was 1259 yeards. I had my binoculars so I scoped the entire area below for sniper teams. I spotted only two. I was AMAZED. I am sure there were more that I couldnt see.
I decided to walk around the general area and see if there were hidden teams or scouts in the woods or brush. I scoured the area and finally I found the cop whose car was parked at the entrance. He was alone, with a dog, a long rifle and binoculars. 20 minutes later the President took off from the airport below and left.
I am pretty sure if someone was so inclined they could have taken a good shot with reasonable chance of hitting their target. To be honest I was dissapointed that the security wasnt better. I have been VERY surprised that Al-Qeada hasnt at least tried to mount some attack. I would hope Amerca starts to guard the president better.

I measured it 3 days ago. The funny thing is...you guys all claim to be so smart and its so "obvious" that my story is false, YET, I provided enough info in my post for you to determine if it is true or not. I cant believe that someone hasnt done just 3 minutes of fact checking to see if my story is even remotely plausible. CR...if you were there...you were known. My base provides military support for POTUS at White House West (ie Crawford). Believe me, the Protection Detail knows everything that goes on in the envelope of protection. That ADVON team had gone to the town a week in advance and scouted the area by foot, vehicle and helicopter and knew where every vantage point was and it was watched.
Ever heard of NAOC? That is the National Airborne Observation and Command aircraft. Whenever POTUS is on the move outside of DC or Crawford, that platform is in the air over the target and can see a cat taking a piss from 30K feet. Cameras and thermal devices let nothing get by them.
Your presence would have been/was noted. You most likely were in the thermal imaging scope of an agent and never had a clue. Had you even remotely looked like you had something that would be considered a weapon, you would have been eating dirt and explaining yourself for a long time.0 -

I assumed that I was in fact being watched. I would be shocked if I wasnt. The thing that struck me was this scenario though.....how closely does the secret service screen the local police officers ? The officer I saw in the area had a .308 and if so inclined probably could have gotten a shot off. Was the secret service watching him too ? How wide of a perimiter do you think they cover ? I was 1259 yards from the president, do you think agents were behind me watching people in the area ? If I showed you the specific area I think you would agree its a very difficult area to monitor as I was clearly on the highest point possible.0 -

CR...They do a complete check on the local, county and state LEOs who will be within "striking" distance of the "package". When we go to Crawford we always see the same DPS and county deputies on duty on the road and gate(s). They are the ones who have been checked and cleared. All of our personnel who are tasked to support him are also background checked by the SS and FBI...even though we already have a security clearance and multiple background checks done.
How big the perimeter is to be honest is beyond me...nor would I tell if I did know. My units part of the support has nothing to do with security. But I do know that NOTHING goes unnoticed by them out there. These guys see every little thing we do out there.
I will say this though. We have had the opportunity to meet him and his wife. All the media crap aside, he appears to be a very down to earth person. Being the President is not a job I would ever want. He has aged over the last 7 years since taking the office0 -

I seen a couple suburbans the day after a tornado ripped apart Utica Illinois and Rod Blagojevich showed up to see the damage first hand. A town of about 500 people and 8 died in a building that collapsed.
