How 2 Replace Dash Lights 99 Escort?

My daughter has a high mileage 1999 Ford Escort. She has taken good care of it over the years, (bought it brand new) but with the high mileage (145,000) things are starting to go wrong that can't be helped. For example, a day or two ago her automatic door locks started trying to lock themslelves all by themselves. I didn't have a clue about how to actually repair that so the best I could do was to take out the fuse and she now has to use her car key to get into her car and then use all four door locks as manual locks. She doesn't have the money and it might not even be worth it to try and get the automatic locks repaired.

Anyway, she can get along fine with the now manual locks, but there is another problem that has been bothering me. All except one of her dash lights have apparently burned out. The only one left is the gas gauge. I worry about this, expecially with the speedometer not being visible at night.

Can someone tell me how to get the dash off (or what it takes) to replace those lights? Or can a mechanic do it for a reasonable price?

    Not really. Just my news year resolution. People throw crap at me, it gets thrown back. After doing a google search on you, I find there are many places on the internet where you can be found if you want to play.

    days not over yet, one would think you where new here[:)]








    never done it on that exact model, but most are a pain you may get off easy with taking off the bottom dash panels or you could have to take out half the dash, it's allot of work to replace a 1.59 part

    This is actually easy to do your self just takes some time and is kind of a pain in the but.

    get a repair manual from you loackl auto parts store if you want but basicly
    sit in the drivers seat

    find ever scre in the dash bezel you can and take then out try to pull it out if it doesn't come out easily look for a screw or teo you missed when you get it out take the screws out of the gauge plate and pull it towards you you might have enough slack in the wire to do with out removing wires but if you have to just pull the conectors apart the lights are little bulbs that go through the circut board they have small black caps that you turn 1/2 turn and pull to remove usually you have to go to a ford dealer to get the bulbs most suto stores downt seems to sell them
