Roots in sewer line

We have always had good luck With Robic root remover. It is just copper sulfate but it seems to work 0 -
Run a sewer auger down the line with a cutter blade ,then run muriatic acid down the pipe and let it sit. (Make sure it`s safe for your pipes first)We used to do this at our old house and it would last a year or two.I bet we did it on and off for 10 years before the tree finally got the idea it should grow it`s roots another way. The last 10 years we were there we never had a problem. 0 -
I got into a huge battle with a root problem. When I used the auger, I didn't know what I was doing and it bunched up and shot backwards out of the line and knocked me down by hitting me in the face (cut my face all up). I got really mad and rented a backhoe and ripped all of the line up and replaced with new schedule 40. If I had to do it all over again I would just start with the backhoe.

Most likely you have the old clay tile sewer line if you have a root problem. The only right way to do it, is replace it with PVC. If you run a cutter into the pipe, you risk damaging the pipe and making more problems for yourself. If you plan on staying in the house, replace it! 0 -
Clear it with a snake fowlled by copper sulfate, fot maintence, throw a cup of rock salt down the stool every couple weeks.. 0 -
No my friend,,, you need to get the root problem at the "ROOT". Get rid of the root making plant? tree? bush? IF THE PLANTS LIVE THEY WILL GROW INTO YOUR SEPTIC TANK! YOUR SEWER LINES! The only sure product is sweat and money. Time to dig up that old sewer line.
There are some big, powerful cutter heads/machines out there. A pro job might cost $325.
And it might buy you another couple of years.0 -

Had mine dug up eight years ago, just had a plumber clean out roots last week.I ask him about copper sulfate,it will work but needs to be in the pipes for a log time to do any good at all,over night isnt nearly enough.

The idiot PO of our house planted bamboo, right above where out line goes out to the septic tank.... LOTS of roots..
Every 2 or 3 years we have a plumbing co. come out and use a cutting tool to grind a bunch of them out, and we also put rootkill in the system once a month or so. Also, no tampons, etc. down the toilet - liquids, crap, and TP only.0 -
I had to have mine cleaned out about every 4 or 5 years and I put rock salt in every month but in the end, my soil pipe collapsed in the basement and then the auger wouldn't get thru the roots and I had to replace the whole system. Main sewer line 18 ft deep and about 60 ft long and it cost me 12,000 for the inside and the new outside line. I am now the KING of the throne but must raise taxes on the peons to help pay for the whole thing. Life is good now [:0][:p][:D][}:)] 0 -
Just had my house to street line work done.
Roots were so bad the auger got stuck .
Re-lining the pipe was a big job $7K but carries a 50 year warrantee.
I checked before having it done and that's the going rate.

Sorry about the root problem. The is a product known as Rootx, which kills the roots and sometimes the plant. I would try that and see if it works. Rootx foams and hence coats the roots. Roots generally get into the line thru joints. If the line is near a problem tree and you are replacing it, you could cement the nearest joint(s) although the pipe needs some play in the joint for expansion. You could wrap the joint in copper sulfate impregnated burlap to discourage the joints. Good luck and tight pipes. 0
