Good digital closeup?

I have a sony cybershot that goes from an unspecifed email setting to 1M, 3M, 3-2, and 4M.

I edit with the free version of Adobe Photoshop which allows for cropping, auto color, auto contrast, and sharpen.

What's the best way to get good close up photos with this camera and software?

I find they often turn out grainy. I had an email enquiry about picture #19 in this auction wanting to know if there was crud in the bore; there is not, it's just fuzziness in the photo.

    Does the camera have a macro setting? If you don't know if it has macro, what's the model number?

    1st refer to your manual for minimum distance in a macro setting. I have a half inch minimum focal distance with my extra macro setting, however; most digital cameras have about 10" to 18" minimum focal distance. The only thing you can do if you don't have an extra macro setting is set the resolution as high as you can and then zoom in and crop to get a close up. It will be a bit grainy and get worst as you zoom in the the higher resolution should help a little bit.

    You might also try adjusting the lighting and see if that helps.
