    Me too! Lifetime warranty. Don't get on it when it's wet though (personal experience)![xx(]

    Don't have one on the house Got on one the pole barn.

    If you get one for the house get the kind that seal every joint I wouldn't use pole barn steel on my house. Study it first there is a big difference in the way it is sealed up. The good stuff cost more but like anything else you get what you paqy for. I've seen some people use the pole barn steel and think they got a real deal.

    If you heat with wood or coal check the warranty. Some won't cover alternative fuels.

    mom and dad have steel on their house....when my house in town need roof work it gonna get steel

    Noise notwithstanding, all plusses. Strength, long lasting, easy (relative) installation, low maintainance.

    One bad point. Make sure it's secured properly. Substantial gusts have been known to remove an entire side of the roof (from the eave to the peak) in one piece. Joe

    Tar paper is your roof, the rest of the stuff is there to proteck that. Use the screws with rubber gaskets/metal hats and lots of them. If corregated lap 2 bumps. Try to have all vents and such at the peak or make good crickets. Don't forget to ground it for lighting.

    Get a Standing Seam metal roof. Minimal 24 gauge steel galvalume with a Kynar 500 color coating. Make sure installers install it with no exposed fasteners. On a good quality installation, you should see no fasterners, as they will all be concealed by seams. That is the hurricane standard here in Florida. If they use Grace Ice & Water Shield as an underlayment, you will never have a leak.

    I have a 24 ga standing seam roof on a double layer of felt.
    It has a gorgeous grey paint or seal or something and no fasteners.
    It was expensive.

    But I used to lose shingles on the West side EVERY spring. This valley gets 75-90 MPH winds every year.

    No problems now in 6 yrs.

    If you can afford it, get it

    Put pole barn steel on my garage 4 years ago and it's great (did it my self) considering it on my house but still have 5 - 10 left on the shingles. I might go for more expensive steel on the house but haven't compared yet.

    Put one on my mother's house after Hurricane Katrina tore the old one off. Also helped a friend of mine put one on his house after the storm.

    It is a great roofing material. As a secondary plus it acts to double your tin foil hat effectiveness.

    I have a metal roof and love it. I get up there in the spring and
    sweep off the leaves and sticks etc. makes great noise when it rains.

    Granparents tin roof has been on there since before I was born 31 yrs ago...just now getting ready to put a new one on. Love the sound when it rains!!!

    I've been in two different houses that had them, and I was pretty impressed. They put down tar paper, with some sort of foam underlayment. The only excessive noise I noticed was in an earth contact with relatively low outside walls, when standing next to the wall. There was a little bit of the "rain on a tin roof" noise, but it wasn't noticeable after a little while. The rest of the house was very quiet. The drumming seems to be canceled out by the foam, and being fastened securely to the sheeting.

    I have a steel roof. It looks OK and keeps the rain out, which is its main function.

    Put one on my house now two years ago - too early to tell if I got my moneys' worth. Will let you know when I have had it for Fifteen years or so.

    I don't own one but I have installed a few.

    Standing seam panels are much better than any system with exposed fasteners. Don't skimp on the extra fasteners on the ends and edges!

    Be sure all of your decking is solid - the fasteners are only as good as the material they are attached to. On industrial applications we always put a layer of polyisocyanurate insulation with decking board attached on top of it over metal structural deck and then the dry sheet over the insul board.
