House Flooded
I woke up this morning to a great suprise, as I was waking up I heard the sound of water running. No big deal as I have kids I they might just be washing their hands. But the water kept running, and it sounded like it was dripping on the floor. Ohhh Boy, I was out of bed in a flash to find out were this was comming from. I check my bath room and their was nothing, then I headed down the hall to the kids bathroom.
As I waked into the kids bathroom I noticed that the carpet was soaking wet. This bathroom as a seperate bath/camode area from the vanity and a pair of sinks. I am barefoot walking through a inch of water that is sitting on top of the carpet as I open the door to the inner chamber of the bathroom. There I find my youngest Daughter, Juliana (3), she is standing on a towl as the toilet is running. She plugged the toilet with too much paper and it overflowed. She just didn't know what to do so she froze.
I really have no idea how long the toilet ran like this, but there wa 2 inches of water in the inner chamber. Now did I mention hat this is not only a two story house but this bathroom is on the second story? The water leaking from above ran down to the first floor buy way of the ceiling and wall. This ended up flooding the entry way, a corner of the living room and also the garage. I was able to save boxes of books in the garage before they were destroyed and the damage is not bad, just wet. It is going to take a few days for he carpet to fully dry out and the only real damage was too the celing which is now stained.
After drying everything I could I told Juliana, in my calmest possable voice, "Baby, the next time you have a problem, come get your Daddy, please". Here answer was a very sweet "OK Daddy".

That is a real nightmare.
After having had terrible problems with second floor bathrooms, when we went to buy rental houses we had one rule: No second floor bathrooms.
We buy one story ranchos with full basements, makes it a lot easier to see/repair plumbing problems.0 -
Been there....sorry to hear of your situation. 0 -
Glad to hear you and your daughter kept your heads. I know if I would have done that years ago there would not have been a calm voice for miles. 0 -
You just have to love them.

I'm still laughing about it, I just got back in and the house stinks. But I knew something bad was going to happen this morning, I had a appointment to get my taxes done at noon. I think I'm smiling because my taxes went much better than I thought. Time to go car shopping[:)] 0 -
