Best way to get a hotel room cheap ?

    None of the above. Call the hotel directly, not the 800 number for the hotel. They know what they have booked, if they are under or over booked, and if they have rooms they can release at a discount, much more so than the folks at the 800 number. Just ask them for the best discount they can give you. If it isn't enough, call another hotel.

    Remember what you belong to. Most organizations have a discount for hotels.

    I used priceline, and named my price.

    I got a room at they hyatt in downtown st. louis for 50/night. that's union station!

    I like.

    Thats about what hotels go for around HERE... 49.00/ night... and I think STL is more expensive.

    If there is no chance you will change your mind, hotwire is the cheapest. When I use hotwire, I've gotten hotels for about half the cost indicated on expedia and travelocity. But once you agree to the reservation, you can't change your mind and get your money back - it's prepaid, with no cancellation or refund.

    If you need to include possible cancellation in the equation, the best bet is to search using expedia or travelocity or priceline... and then use the hotel's website or call up the hotel itself. Most hotels have rates as good as or better than the main online travel sites.

    Yea, around here it's called "The Lighthouse Mission" and you get to sleep altogether in one big room---it's really a family atmosphere[:D][:D][:D]

    Call the Hotel directly, well in advance, and ask to speak to the "Reservations Manager" than ask her what her best price is...

    Union Station is not quite downtown, but just ask the homeless people around there and they can point you toward downtown. Or just head toward the arch.

    It isn't but a quarter mile away, and it's actually closer to the bars on the landing, I think.

    The southern end is closer to where I want to go, but I won't be walking into Soulard anyway. I'll definitely be eating some Broadway Street Oyster bar, and I'm certain BB's Blues, Jazz, & Soups will have some good live music.
