Rangers investigate complaint against Bowie County deputy

A Bowie County deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into a woman's complaint, authorities said.

The complaint involves Lt. Pat Savage, said Capt. David Grable.

A report of the woman's complaint was taken Dec. 29 at the Bowie County Sheriff's Office. The matter was immediately turned over to the Texas Rangers, Grable said.

Savage has been with the sheriff's department for more than 20 years. He was placed on administrative leave this week after he returned from holiday, Grable said.

The investigation into the unnamed woman's complaint will be conducted by Texas Ranger Jay Womack, who was not available for comment Friday.

    Sorry to hear that nunn.

    I have never understood why they will not list who the complaintant is until the charges are substantiated or refuted, but will immediately put the officers name out there. This can damage his reputation and make him a target for more complaints that are not valid. It should be anonymous until such time as charges are substantiated IMO.

    The news story is pretty vague about the "woman's complaint".

    Which is what my grandmother used to call the monthlies.

    Well, what's the freakin' complaint?
    MEDIC, a lot of people would then not register complaints for fear of retaliation.

    I know more than I can tell right now.

    The officer, as a public employee, hasn't the same expectation of privacy as the citizen making the complaint. That's just the way it is.

    I agree to keeping the complaintant anonymous, but they should also keep the officers name out of the news until it is substantiated. We all know how there are loonies who want to jump on the bandwagon about things.

    Imagine trying to get on a new department with a file full of complaints against you...founded or not.

    Exactly right medic. They should not even release it to the press until it has been investigated and concluded. After all is said and done, then make a press release and explain the story and outcome.
