Most popular rifle calibers?

Anyone know what the most popular rifle calibers in europe are?

    Europe is a big place with many different shooting cultures. In England the .303 may be king due to its long use by the military. In Germany and Austria I would suspect the 7x57 and 8x57 are likely most popular but I don't know for sure.

    In France I saw American rifles for sale in a gun shop in .30-06 and .308.

    i believe youll find the 22 is still king there. especially in international competition level shoots.

    i reckon the humble little .22 long rifle would be the most popular chambering in the world...where ever there are guns you will find them.

    I assumed the question referred to center-fire calibers. Of course the 22 is the most popular rifle but I don't think that was the answer to the question.

    hunting....probably the 223 here..everyones favorite, if ya have a use.. [;)]

    next 243 or 6.5x55 for deer

    but ...the plinker 22 l/r for most !

    oh yeh...forgot...every one witha licence has a 12g/3 shot..

    you could be right saxon...that being the case, the 30-30 would have to be included...there are a lot of them around.

    7.62x39 (to go with the millions of SKSs/AKs and it's variants that are still in use by the Russian Army and most of the former Eastern bloc nations) not just in Europe ... perhaps in the world (esp. in Asia and Africa).

    the .30-06 is popular over there believe it or not, as are the traditional military calibers: 223, 308, 7X57, 8X57, 6.5X55, 303, 7.62X54, even the 7.5 Swiss. I would suspect that ubiquitous American calibers like the 243 winchester are available as well. They have their own, like the 7X64 Brenneke, that aren't well known over here but have a following there.

    Thanks for the replies, I kind of figured they would be something I wasnt familar with. I did think the .303 British was pretty popular, Im going to research the others.
