Gunshop advocates unloaded firearm for protection?

If you don't have an operating handgun there are other options;

MEANING: one that is empty (no bullets in it), or has been disabled (firing pin removed, etc.).
Yes this is an option and statistics show that it is often extremely effective! It is found that 85% of the time when an altercation occurs, the mere `showing' of a firearm ends the incident. THINK ABOUT IT!!! Eighty-Five Percent of the time the gun doesn't even have to work in order for it to be effective. This means that when you encounter a mugger or rapist, you pull a gun out of your purse (that doesn't work or is unloaded), and the mugger or rapist leaves! This also means, if you have kids and don't want to have a loaded gun around, or are a conscientious objector, or just don't think you could pull the trigger - THEN CARRY AN UNLOADED OR DISABLED HANDGUN - most of the time it will work just as well as if it were loaded

in a country like mine where guns are restricted so badly now showing an empty one or a deactivated one would most likely work...but in the u.s. where the mugger/rapist/robber may very well be armed as well...i dont know, it could get you killed[xx(] 0 -
Another option is to carry `blanks' in your firearm. I have done this in the past. They are very loud when fired but they don't shoot a bullet. It is like a very loud cap, or maybe like an M80 firecracker. When you hear it go off, there is no way to tell it was a blank. The mere sound of a blank 22 or 38 sends a would be burglar running for his life!!!!!!!!!!! Obviously, this is even better than a `disabled' firearm. For you have audible Bluff

Just out of curiosity, what happens when they catch a criminal with an illegal firearm? Here in the USA, most of the time, the fire arm charg is the first to be plea bargained away. There are so many laws regarding criminal activity with a firearm that are not enforced, and all they do is sit up on Capital Hill, and make more of the same...a lot of them are repeats of the same that hit the book 20 years ago.0 -
tsr1965, if it only possesion and you dont have any other criminal convictions you will get a fine and be banned from holding a firearms licence for 5 years, and any firearms you legally own will be taken and be melted down!..the exception would maybe be if you were caught with an 'assault" rifle..ex military, high capacity magazine, full or semi auto, then you could possibly be sent to prison...not likely, but more likely than just being caught with an unregistered rifle of shotgun..there are plenty of unregistered guns here, as far as im concerned, registration is a waste of time unless you can get 100% compliance, even the politicians have admitted that is impossible, therefore the only reason for it is to make it easy to take guns when they want to!the people who lived in the states that had registration accepted the new gun laws a hell of a lot better than the people who lived in states where it didnt exist....i have seen a report done by a state police department that was "leaked" that estimated that there are as many unregistered guns as there are legal ones...i wouldnt doubt it either! 0 -

I have a CCW, but before that I still carried an ankle holster "hide-out" piece, along with a Randall "neck knife" because as a Boy Scout in the l950's I bought into the "Be Prepared" motto 110%-still do today. And I sleep like a baby each night with my Para-Ord. l911-A1 .45ACP loaded with 185 grain JHP's- Some say that a wheelgun is a better choice, because there is no pressure on any of the springs until it's cocked (single action) or fired (double action) but I carried a l911-A1 as my TO weapon "In Country" so I stay with it- my ankle piece is a Colt officers model 1911-A1 modified for CCW- I also have kept a Replica Remington Army 1858 C&B pistol stashed near the front door- it has all six holes filled with lead balls, visible to anyone looking at the muzzle, but there is no powder or caps behind each cylinder hole- but how would you know. Reason for this is:I live in a rural area, about 12 years ago at night someone started pounding on my front door- a double door with a secure front storm, so I can see with the lights on who is on the porch- some real ugly brute was trying to find a "skipped town" neighbor and reposses his car- as said neighbor was both a friend and a brother 'Nam Vet-I told this "clown" to leave or I'd call the cops- he started to act "yinky" so I pulled out the "dummy pistol" and pointed it towards his "wind and Water" and cocked the hammer back, which made a loud click- he looked, and then left. Now, let's be clear, our State laws said that if I had actually shot him through the storm door, I'd be in a whole new world of Kimshee. I also had my "ankle carry" Colt, and if he had tried to break through, I would have backed away, dropped the "l858 dummy" and grabbed the colt and shot him dead inside my house, where the law would have declared self defense. By using the term "girly gun" they have instantly made me dislike them. I even tried to give them a chance by looking into what they had to say.....but when the variety of pink grips popped up that nail in the coffin was hammered in.
No gun store or business should ever be so high and mighty "good ole boy-ish" as to single out the females in that rediculous way.

This may be true on the state level but not so on the Federal level.
Here is a good example that happened 25 miles from here.
There was an orphaned fawn that had taken up with a herd of cattle. Every day this deer could be seen grazing in the meadow with the cows, which happened to be next to a highway about 20 miles west of Asheville NC.
So people would often stop and watch the now-adult doe out there in the pasture.
One day a 55 year old hillbilly pulled up and shot the deer dead with his 30-30. About 5 other cars were pulled over to look at the deer so the dumb ass didn't even get his deer, the cops were called instead.
The guy did 2 weeks in the county jail for trespassing and shooting a deer out of season.
Well Asheville is full of animal lovers and this story made the Asheville papers. The U.S. attorney read the story and was not amused. He pulled the hillbilly's record and found that he had committed a felony and done jail time for it, 30 years earlier.
The Feds filed "posession of a firearm by a convicted felon" charges on the guy and he got 7 years in Leavenworth.
I mean, the guy had been busted and done jail time for his poaching crime already, but the Feds bent over backwards to nail him on the firearms charge.
I follow cases like this in the news and the Feds never fail to pursue a firearms charge.
But after all, the State of North Carolina does not want to confiscate all of your firearms, but many in the Federal government do.0
