using frontline for flea control
i have a white German Sheppard. the average weight for one is between 75 and 95 pounds. i would put her in that weight group. my question is frontline has two options one is 45 to 85 pounds and the other is 85 and up. what one should i use. i have been using the 45 to 85 but it doesn't seem to work as good on her as it does the cats. i use the cat one and never see them scratching or anything but the dog seems to keep getting the fleas. but then i keep hearing about people over dosing there animals on fronline. anyone think i should worry about using the heaver dosage for her. i plane on checking with the vet but wanted to get some ordered before her checkup. i have until the 30 before she needs her next dosage so i figured i would check her before i ordered.

before using frontline give you dog a bath in flea soap making sure to allow the suds to remain on for the 15 min. they suggest rinse, and wash again. Wait a week and do the same thing allover again fleas are born mate and reproduce in 7-10 days so you see why you gotta do it twice? Then use the frontline dogs are much hardier than cats so go to the higher dosage.
You must make sure to deflea the areas that the dog spends the most time at assuming its an indoor dog. If its not an indoor dog then invest in a good sprayer and spray every where. there hard to get rid of

You dont need flea soap...just use Dawn...and use the 85 and up frontline...make sure you de-flea her bed and the carpets in teh house etc.. 0 -

Yep, de-flea the carpets, furniture, and all outdorr areas
the dog has access to. You can get a scented, or non-scented powder
to sprinkle on the carpets, furniture and bedding area, and granuals

I use the Frontline on two dogs and get great results.
Whichever size of Frontline you get, you are getting the same medicine in the same strength. One just has more medicine.
So, you could use the Frontline for the 85 and up, and just not use all of it, the excess just throw away.
I get great results with Frontline and I don't use nearly as much as recommended. I do not give it once a month, I give it every six weeks.
I live in the North Carolina mountains and the fleas and ticks are gone in the winter, so I go about 5 months without using it at all, depending on how cold it is.
I figure a drug that is absorbed through the skin and that will continue killing fleas and ticks for 5 or 6 weeks is potent and could have bad side effects on my dogs, so I want to minimize usage of it.
In eight years I have not had a single flea so I am doing something right.0 -
We have four dogs and three cats in the house and we de-flea nothing but use Frontline on the animals. You don't have to de-flea; all you have to do is interrupt the life cycle, and that's what the Frontline does. We don't have fleas.
Now, if we were to bring in a new animal, and if it had fleas, it would get a good bath and then Frontline. I agree that "flea bath" is unnecessary. Dawn works, but so will just about any detergent/surfactant, and will cut off the fleas' air supply and they suffocate. That won't get the eggs, but by the time the eggs hatch, the fleas that emerge will bite a critter treated with Frontline and die.
A while back, we brought in a foundling ferret that was covered in fleas. As soon as I got her home, I bathed her and the fleas she had on her died. I kept her segregated from the other ferrets for a few days, and found no more fleas, and no health problems, so I introduced her to the big cage. That was it. No fleas.0 -
we use Frontline to, order off the Net to save money. I don't like how you can't pet them for 24 hours, not worried about me but the kids forgetting and petting them anyway. 0 -
We have one cat that is very sensitive to it- we have to use half doses. But if she is ok with the lighter dose and shows no problems I'd go ahead with the larger one as she is borderline big enough for it anyhow. 0 -
By the way I use Revolution on my two cats. It works great on fleas and also works for heartworms.
Revolution doesn't work on ticks, but the cats clean ticks off of themselves so I don't have a problem with ticks either.
For the mutts I have to use Frontline for the ticks and fleas, and then I have to use the tablets for the heartworms.0
