    A giant hawk type bird just flew in front of my window, latched onto my neighbors fence and flew by my window again. Neat, its raining here too.

    I've logged onto General Discussion now at least 5 times in the last 30 minutes. Feels kind of cool. What a concept!

    Been kind of bummed thought feral cats had gotten my Quail. But just looked out and they are in the yard eating. No young this year but they are still with me.

    We`ve go a hawk that hunts over our bird feeder.Sometimes he will hide under our bush right by the window where we can watch him up close.Most of the time he just hangs out in a tree for a little bird to land on the feeder,then he flys down dive bombs em.Fun to watch.

    I live on the edge of a canyon. We have hawks "stooping" all the time over the brush covered area looking for lizards or bunnies. They are fun to watch.

    Once in a while I'll see one flying by with a kill in his mouth.

    I love to watch the big birds of prey. One time I flew with a redtail hawk, in my hang glider. We were 3,000 feet above the ground. I was 20 feet above the hawk and 30 feet behind him. I watched this beautiful animal from this position for five minutes. I watched him make corrections in his flight by flicking the individual wingtip feathers, just as we would move our fingers.

    Had a crain walking around in the back yard yesterday - biggest I've ever seen! They eat enormous Koi out of Koi ponds around here.

    In my part of the country they seem to get pretty active/squirrelly this time of year. Maybe getting hyper-territorial due to the upcoming breeding season?

    I agree, they're very cool to watch.

    When I was a kid I grew up in the suburbs in Atlanta.
    Our neighbor, Mrs. Owens, always had some cats for pets, usually had some kittens hanging around.
    I remember one summer day she told my mom that an owl had killed some of her kittens.
    Sure enough, that night about ten of us, adults and kids, were standing around in the driveway. Out came Mrs. Owens with a double barrel shotgun. She declared that the owl was right up there on the telephone line. I looked up, I couldn't see a thing. We had no street lights and it was really dark.
    Mrs. Owens raised her shotgun to her shoulder and fired. To my amazement, down tumbled a giant owl, dead. I was only 8 years old, the thing looked like a monster to me! I remember his claws were bigger than my hands.
    Looking back, I would say this owl was 20 to 24 inches high.
    Don't mess with Mrs. Owens.
