Update on the Siberian Husky we found
Well I've had a few e-amils asking about her so I felt I'd better update the story.
We still have her. She is now our dog. I've talked with both the breeder and the owner of the dog, have exchanged photos, gave our vet information, etc. to show the owner in Ohio that we can provide a good home for this dog. They (breeder & owner) informed us on Christmas eve that we could keep the dog.
The dog is a purebred Siberian Husky. She comes from champion bloodlines and is a AKC Champion herself. Her kennel name is "Ellie" and her AKC name on her papers is "Champion Prvt. Stk. Electra". She has been shown all over the eastern half of the United States and has many wins in her name. She won her championship in Altanta where she beat out 49 other huskys to win best of breed/show. Her full brother is a current world champion show dog who has won more shows and awards that any other Husky in AKC history.That's impressive!! After her showing was done she has had 5 litters of puppies and was retired. She is 6 1/2 years old. She is in perfect health, has not been spayed,and has had her hips and her eyes certified. She is housebroke. She knows how to kennel up, and is quite happy to be in a kennel with a chewbone. She knows how to heal, how to walk on a leash, and how to chase cats!
After a few weeks of being around her we know that Ellie is a very loving dog. She likes everybody! She really likes my 10 year old son, who in return really likes her. I think she is wise to the fact that he always has a treat (mini milkbone) in his pocket for her. He wants to show her in 4-H this year. The owner and breeder are going to find someone around here to work with him and her and show him the correct way to show her. I think he's pretty excited about that! This dog loves to ride in the truck, she just sits there and looks out the window. And loves to go on walks. I'm sure she has never seen or smelled all the neat things that are out in the country. She has to check out everything. And make no mistake, these dogs can pull!! And the hair!! She is "blowing coat" right now and I tell you, hair everwhere! Thank god for the shop vac and "The FURmanator"!
We have agreed to keep her for eight weeks and then make a final decision on keeping her or not. Well I can tell you we have already made up our minds on keeping her, and I think Ellie has made up hers too!
It's funny how things happen in life. Who would expect to find a AKC champion show dog walking down the middle of the road. Of all the roads around here, she was on mine, twice in one day, Sunday. And a dog her color running loose in the Iowa countryside during late deer season?? Some would say it's fate, some would say it's luck, or Karma, and some, like myself, think it's something more.

Huskeys are great dogs. i used to raise them. the biggest problem i discovered is they shead year round, and the worst is they are very Heart Worm sussible(sp) i kept mine on heart worm meds and still lost all but 2 with HW's.

It's great to see that the dog is with a family that will love and enjoy it..Now to look at the bad side as my wife says I always do.. How does a dog with that kind of history end up lost,don't get me wrong I'm very happy for you and Ellie. Did they say how she was lost, just thinking that a dog with those bloodlines would be worth some money even just for breeding...Sorry if this bring spirits down but I just have to ask, because people that don't take responsibility for there pets really pisses me off.. 0 -
Well I didn't want to get into how she was lost to begin with as I don't know for sure. The lady who had here close to me (She bred her for the owner) claims that she placed her in a home two days before we found her. We don't think things add up, but I'm not going to persue it any farther. Yes, the owner of the dog told me that she would be worth quite a bit of money to a breeder, but since I do not have her papers, She's just a good dog. I can get her papers, but I would have to spay her first. I'm still undecided on that yet.

wonderful! sounds like things couldn't have turned out better or the dog.
another thing to watch out for, to keep her healthy, huskies are susceptible to "giant cell granuloma" in their mouth, which they get from lesions from chewing bones. it looks like a big wad of cancer, but it's not, but it's still as dangerous. keep a close eye on the inside of her mouth. think of it as preventative maintenance.0 -

If you are not going to breed her then spaying can be a good option. (all my dogs are fixed) You seem to love her and she seems to "fit" your family from what you have said... good luck with her and I hope you share many many good years.0 -

It sounds like it worked out for the best for you and Ellie[8D]
In the late 80s I found 2 puppy yellow labs wandering around in front of my place in the snow.
I called them over to get them out of the street and then asked neighbors if they knew whos they were.
No one knew so I hung a few signs for about a 3 mile radius and never got a call.
I ended up keeping one and gave one to a good friend.
They turned out to be great dogs and I know puppies dont just wander off into the snow for great distances on their own so after no one contacted me about the puppies I could only assume they were dumped.0 -
It sounds like you have been blessed with a great dog. I remember your previous post on this and thought there must be something very wrong with the dog that the prior owners could not manage. Congrats on a wonderful new family member. 0 -

That's good to know that they work. We had one installed in our dog although he's too much of a mamma'a boy to ever leave her side. Husky's on the other hand love to run.0 -
Yes they work! It took about 10 seconds to scan and get the number and about 3 min. on the phone to get all the info on the dog's owner. 0
