Got another lost dog home

Last week I got to deliver "Buster" the beagle to his owner. Buster had hung around for almost 2 weeks before I could track owner down.
Anyway. last night a neighbor a couple of miles away came by looking for his rottie pup (75lbs of pup). I had not seen it but this AM as I was running out back door, there he was by my van and he growled at me. I know I did sort of scare him since I went busting thru door, but dammit, I hate rotties right off. I got in van and was gone all morning and when I came home around 4PM, he was in my storage shed.

I figured he was hungry and thirsty and I had food left over from Buster, so I fixed up a bite and called owner. He was just finishing up his snack when owner came by to get him. glad to get him home.

I'm sorry but I hate Rotties, Dobermans, and Pit Bulls. I just don't want them around me. I've always heard its how they were raised but I have also heard the horror stories of how they turn on children/people and it is against my nature to have one around. Tom

    Its not in my nature to hate any dog based solely on its breed.

    I grew up with Dobies. As far as I'm concerned, its the best breed of dog out there.


    The problem with Dobies, Rotties, and Pits are that they attract a higher proportion of retard badass wannabes than other breeds.

    Pits I don't mind, my sister has one. He's the biggest spoiled azz lapdog they ever was. Rotties I was attacked by one once. I do love my dobies.

    I have been taking my 11 mo. old pups to the dog park for 3 or 4 mo. now, and every time we're there there are several rotties, dobies, and pits running around, no problems yet. All have been friendly.


    P.S. You're a damm fine man to take the care you do with strays.[^]

    RackOps, my neighbor is Africanized and runs auto repair/junk yard. God only knows what else. My personal picks are Collies, Labs.

    My neighbor has a lab and where his children are the lab is there. She is there unless the kids go out of town. Mollie makes every step the kids do, if it is all possible. She is more protective than the kids mom. Funny how some animals are like that. Tom

    To be honest that sounds like my Rotty with my kids. Also like the Rottys I grew up with. I once walked out my bedroom and saw my daughter biting my poor dogs leg and growling as my dog was biting my daughters leg growing. They were head to toe. Funniest thing I've ever seen haha.

    I wanted so bad to take "rescue" a little baby beagle lastnight. I was out working and some moron had it chained up outside in the freezing rain. Poor thing was cold and starved for attention. It couldn't have been more than 4 months old. Did not bark, just wagged it's tail when I got close. When I started walking away his tail went between his legs and his head went down. One time in my life I wish I were a thief!!!

    Doug, I have been known on a very few rare occasions to pour hot food across my fence to said poor animals. Now this was in San Antonio, not known for very cold nights. Damn, I just cannot think about animals in the very cold north country.Damn, it still just rips my heart out. Tom

    it was about 27 degrees here when I saw the puppy. I have to go back to that house this week for work again at night...wonder if it will be outside again. Supposed to be in the 30's all week.

    grew up with all breeds from miniature poodles (which i cant stand anymore)to coon hounds, sheps, dobies and boxers
    and with all the different breeds i have known only a couple who turned on owners/handlers...ones that at some point were severely mis-treated, usually by those same people.
    had a very large male shep wandered in once and stayed till death. i thought he was going to go when a guy showed up at the garage one day and claimed it was his dog, he is also the only person the dog wanted a peice of... REAL BAD!
    my dobies and sheps were the best baby sitters to be found, wouldnt even let mom smack their behinds when they were bad, she would get a warning growl. but i could set them straight, even hold em by their legs "bounceing" them on their heads and the dog watched and smiled.
    even my "worst" behaved dobie would let strangers kids crawl all over him and give them kisses

    goldeneagle: When I was a Paramedic our quarters backed up to a residential neighborhood. About ten feet behind our quarters was a three foot high chain link fence. In one of those yards the people had a cage with a fox in it.
    My buddy Steve and I felt so sorry for the fox stuck for life in that little three foot long cage.
    They had a bulldog in there too to guard the yard.
    One night Steve and I were on duty, and we were second out, and all was quiet in our county. I got a pound of hamburger. I went to the corner of the yard, and when the bulldog came up, I started throwing 1/4 pound chunks of hamburger over the fence, in order to distract the guard dog. There were no street lights in the vicinity and it was very dark back there.
    Steve went to the other end of the yard and jumped the fence and let the fox out of the cage, and jumped back over to safety. I bet he wasn't across that fence more than ten seconds.
    The bulldog was still chomping on hamburger.

    On our next shift, three days later, we looked over the fence and there was the fox, back in his cage!
    We saw the guy there and asked about the fox, he said, "Yeah, it got loose the other night but it was just standing by the cage in the morning, so I caught it and put it back."
    The fox had never known freedom and didn't know what to do outside of his little 3 foot cage.
    It is illegal in Georgia to capture wild animals and keep them in a cage, so we called Game and Fish on the guy and the DNR Ranger came and took the fox away.
    We were told that there was a "fox rescue lady" who DNR worked with who had a real big fenced enclosure where she kept foxes like this so hopefully it worked out ok after all.

    Rotties are very family oriented,..once you accept them into the pack, they will remain loyal. Mine stopped sleeping on my feet and started sleeping at the foot of the crib when my son was born. Same thing,..you try to give a spankin and he would just stand up and posture,..as if to say "I'll allow it Dad,...but don't get carried away". He would get out and go play with the neighbors kids,...they would call to tell me he was at their house[8D] a 145lb teddybear.

    Pit Bulls,..no way...too much inbreeding and you never know when they might snap. It is a shame because as stated, the large majority of pitts are owned by the scum of society and act accordingly.[V]
